Intel PCD E5400 CPU Fan Issue...help needed

My father has the same cpu + heatsink/fan combo that I do. We both have the ASUS Mobo running PC Probe 2. My cpu fan speed is running around 800rpm while his is running around 3000rpm. My heat warning is constantly alerting me that my cpu is overheating. This cpu/mobo combo isn't a month old. Just wondering if I have a faulty cpu fan and what action I need to take.

     Thank you for your help,

    Brad P

Go in your BIOS and make sure your fan is set to run at 100% all of the time.

What size fan is on your CPU? if its an 80mm fan, it should definitly be spinning faster, if its a 140mm fan, 800rpms sounds about right.

Make sure your heat sink is mounted tightly to the CPU and its hard to move side to side, and DOES NOT move up and down, and you installed thermal paste on it right?

The cpu fan is the OEM heatsink/fan combo. Yes I used thermal paste. I will check the bios settings. I know that the socket 775 heatsinks can be tricky to install but I made sure that all four corners were tight and there was no movement left, right, or upwards.

Thank you for the quick reply....

Just a quick addition....the cpu fan is 80mm and in the bios settings, the only fan settings are silent, performance, and optimal...neither of these settings have any direct impact on the cpu or case fan speed....
