Can't Accept 8 Dead Pixel Policy on Monitors

Love ya Newegg but just can't accept getting 7 dead pixels-- or even 3 with say, one in the middle and have to eat the Monitor. REFUSE.

I buy everything else here but a monitor even with 3 dead pixels should be declared useless or sent for refurb.

I'd rather buy a Slightly used one on ebay (and CHEAPER too) knowing it's been tested and has NO Dead ones.

Suggestion: EDIT 1: It's MANUFACTURERS that need to Dramatically tighten quality control and return policy.

    thanks,

Fan who's returned since you wisely stopped collecting NY Sales Tax.

(just got/love the Intel X25 80gb SSD on Shell Shocker and some other stuff)

Not sure, but I think the return policy may be according to the manufacturer, since most replacement are returned to manufacturer to replace....Errrr...this sounds confused, I don't know whether I explained clearly.....................

Re: Can't Accept 8 Dead Pixel Policy on Monitors

Yeah, it's Newegg's policy. I would not accept it either. I like everything to be perfect. But you can always try contacting the manufacturer for a replacement if you do think it is necessary.

If you get a broken button or something along with a dead pixel I guess you could ask them to fix both :P

Re: Can't Accept 8 Dead Pixel Policy on Monitors

This thread is hilarious. If ONE stuck pixel was considered defective and fair to return, manufacturers would probably charge $100 more per LCD due to bad yields.

No thanks guys, I enjoy staring at this tiny green dot knowing that I didn't pay $100 more.

    Sonixunite:

If ONE stuck pixel was considered defective...

WAS!? One stuck pixel IS a defect ( For the record, I'm not yelling at you like your a dumba$!. It's suppose to be humorous sarcasm). But not even at a $200.00 savings would I gamble a bad pixel, hence will NEVER buy display from newegg.com or anyone else who uses policies like this (Course I don't even buy displays at all unless I can personally view it & decide on it. So yea, I'm stuck at local retailers [BB] for displays).

It's just my personnel opinion but I don't thinks it's the end-user's responsibility to be the one to have to deal with the bad pixel(s), because it IS a defect on the manufactures part.

I don't know if by "It's newegg.com's policy (& other online retailers)" if that means THERE the one that doesn't want to deal with all the returns for bad pixels or if it's part of the manufactures terms for newegg.com selling there product. If it's the manufactures terms, that doesn't make sense unless Walmart, Best buy & Costco pay money out of THERE pockets to replace your display because of bad pixel(s).

But this is all just me & we're all to our own.

EDIT: I lied. I did buy this Dell LCD from Dell online (Didn't personally view it & decide on it) but I've never seen a Dell LCD where I didn't like it's picture, so chanced this one.

Only if there was a way to magically kill pixels...

But then again I took a gamble on the Shell Shocker and got me a mighty fine Acer monitor.

Re: Can't Accept 8 Dead Pixel Policy on Monitors

In my opinion, even 1 dead or stuck pixel should warrant a RMA regardless of who the retailer or manufacturer is.  For this reason I would be very reluctant to purchase a monitor from NewEgg.  I love NE and I've purchased many things from them but a LCD monitor is the one thing I wouldn't.

I recently purchased a laptop from a competitor (not sure what the rules are in this forum so I won't say whom but I will say it's one of NewEgg's top rivals) and when I got it it had one stuck pixel and I was able to RMA the unit.  Upon speaking with the customer service rep, she even told me that I was lucky I got it from them and not NewEgg because of this return policy.  It was then that I learned about this 8 pixel policy and I was absolutely shocked.

Regardless, NewEgg has an outstanding reputation and I wouldn't be surprised if they are willing to make exceptions.  And for those of us who aren't willing to take the risk we can just buy our monitors elsewhere.

Re: Can't Accept 8 Dead Pixel Policy on Monitors

Really is a silly policy, and due to the nature of LCD screens I would never have one shipped to me.

Go to Best Buy if its available in your areas, you can get good deals on good models for monitors.

You can return any Item to Costco for any reason. (Electronics within 90 days)

I purchased a monitor there with 3 dead pixels, returned it for another, no questions asked. It was also about $100 less than my favorite online vendor ($40 coupon).

    Peace

Re: Can't Accept 8 Dead Pixel Policy on Monitors

I've only ever had one monitor (out of thousands) arrive with a "dead pixel", and it took me a grand total of 5 seconds to bring it back to life.

The vast majority of dead pixels, can be fixed quite easily.

Re: Can't Accept 8 Dead Pixel Policy on Monitors

OK, so if you're not going to buy a monitor from Newegg, where do you buy from?

I agree: one dead pixel is too many dead pixels. And some manufacturers do have zero dead pixel policies (e.g. Viewsonic). Newegg's 8 dead pixel policy is bewildering considering how awesome the rest of the customer service is. I'll buy everything else through Newegg, but not the monitor. So, which companies (online) have better policies?

Re: Can't Accept 8 Dead Pixel Policy on Monitors

I had a newegg credit and got as 22 inch acer for 100 bucks shipped because it was on sale i was definitely worried about the pixel issue but it came in perfect... how bad would it suck to have 4 bad pixels clumped in the center of the screen, I love newegg but I will probbaly getting my lcds from frys just because of this reason

Re: Can't Accept 8 Dead Pixel Policy on Monitors

I've had displays with 1-3 and they are terribly annoying. Especially when using a computer for normal computer uses. Watching movies isn't that bad, but browsing say EggXpert is terrible for stuck pixels.

    I happily buy tech! Why wouldn't I?

Re: Can't Accept 8 Dead Pixel Policy on Monitors

your right one stuck pixel is a defective LCD,

As a retired electronic repair Tech, I consider stuck pixels to be a manufacturers defect, however most manufacturers do not want to warranty stuck pixels at all or even the set for more than a year this is BS

In the 1980's & 90's Canadian Manufacturers warranties for TV's were standard 3 years P&L on the set & 5 years on the CRT, back then you paid about $800 - $900 C for a 26" name brand set with A/V & S- Video inputs

3 years ago I bought a Daytek 32" wide screen HDTV=(25" SD at 4:3 aspect ratio")  for $1499.00 C (before they cheaped out the product line for Walmart, Costco, Zellars to sell for $599.C a year later) It came with a one year warranty P&L & an exclusion for display issues BS!

the good news is it is still going strong 3 years later with no issues & no stuck pixels.

I also have an old HP M700 note book that runs at least  8 hours a day always on with no screen saver, I had to replace the backlight inveter a few months back but not one stuck pixel.

the problem is crappy production, LCD Displays used to be graded, a perfect display used to sell for top buck in a major brand while the seconds & 3rds were bought up by no name companies & sold at less than half of the cost of name brand.

now the problem is name brand companies do not want to loose profit or sales to these bargain brands so they have started producing economy models with lower grade(flawed, defective LCD's) without stating they are seconds & may contain minor imperfections in the LCD.

So these companies do not want to be responsible for repair or replacement at their cost including all shipping costs, and the bargain outlets selling these items don't want be responsible either and this is just wrong.

If you bought a CRT TV or monitor & it had a dark spot on the screen because they used second grade CRT's & some of the Phosphor coating was missing because the machine ran out of spray when they built the tube & quality control did not catch it.

you would expect it to be covered under warranty & it would be.

I will not buy LCD without seeing it first unless the store has a 100% no BS return policy no question asked, if I don't like it I can return it for exchange, credit, or refund.
