    Is Mac better than Windows?

Someone obviously thinks Mac is better than Windows.

Do you feel the same way? Dare I ask what the reasons are?

    Too true.

My main issue is gaming, ability to screw things up, gaming, and being able to run more than 2 different applications.

Re: Is Mac better than Windows?

I prefer windows i have used mac only noticeable advantage i seen is it seems to use ram memory more efficiently but at the same time it uses it less responsibly because windows if you run out of ram it slows down and dips into hard drive for extra which causes huge slow downs...where as mac it seems to just close what ever is using the ram

But also im a gamer.... there for making mac useless for me and my opinion what ever mac can do pc can do just as good and probaly better and it can do more

That and macs are ungodly expencive for what you get hardware wise you can build and get close to 8 times more power and if u buy prebuild you can prolly get at least 4 times the power out of the same cost  my cost may be exagerated but still you don;t get near monies worth with a mac and macs have very little upgradablity and i also just hate how mac operates as a company they have it set up so they just profit off of people with to much money and little computer knowledge

Re: Is Mac better than Windows?

     IMHO

Apple rips off their consumers with the products they sell.

    MacBook Pro 15-inch  starting @ $2,299.00

    ·  2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    ·  4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB

    ·  500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm

    ·  SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

    ·  MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display

    Or

Fujitsu LifeBook A6230 (FPCM33401) Intel Core 2 Duo P7450(2.13GHz) 15.4" Wide XGA 4GB Memory 500GB HDD Dual layer DVD Burner ... - Retail for $969.99

Not the same CPU speed 2.8 vs. 2.13 but the PC will still kick a MACs a**.

I am a PC/Linux user and get better hardware and less priced over MAC any day of the year. Oh and I can upgrade without being bent over a barrel and screwed.

    EVGA 01G-P3-1080-TR GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card - Retail 449.99

    OR

    EVGA 01G-P3-1181-AR GeForce GTX 285 Superclocked Edition 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail 359.99

    WHAT WOULD YOU WANT.

What's the difference besides the "mac edition" graphics?

Because Apple Inc authorized it to be sold for MACs its that simple, there is no real difference other then pice and it says MAC on it.

Re: Is Mac better than Windows?

IMO, Apple charges way too much just to have their name on a product.  Also, anyone that uses a computer for science and engineering purposes would likely never consider a Mac as a viable choice.  The software for Macs is too limited.

Re: Is Mac better than Windows?

just throwing something out there, i use my macbookpro for my all my work, and web surfing, i also use it for all of my word documents, and any paperwork i have to do. I havent encountered any viruses in the 3 years that i have owned my macbookpro and it still turns on just as  fast as the day i bought it.

on the other hand..... anything other than what i just mentioned up there is what i use my windows rigs for like gaming and programming.

yes apple is way to over priced and expensive....not to mention how you CANT overclock anything because BIOS does not exist on mac...just EFI,which still doesnt allow overclocking.

I did not purchase my macbookpro, it was given to me by the corporation i work for, thank god because its honestly not worth $2,000 of anyones money.

Note: macs are great to surf the web on check your email, produce word documents and use excel and power point. but the fact of the matter is that you can do all of that on a windows computer, and not have to pay $2,000 for a fancy mac computer.

Finally, i think the greatest thing about apple is their line of software, as a musician, i have used every generation of logic since the very first one came out,and i have to say that apple does the best job in my opinion of producing an all purpose music combination software such as logic pro 8.

maybe apple should just make software from now on, and take a giant price cut.

Re: Is Mac better than Windows?

I prefer a PC since I can constantly upgrade my parts. I also run a tech support site and I need to test out different things on my PC since that's what most people need help with.

i'm bugged that some people think macs are better but they spend so much money on the mac with that money they could have gotten a great PC.

Just curious but what makes you think that you cant run more than 2 applications at the same time on a mac?

Not at the same time. Just two useful applications that I could possibly use on there, firefox and their equivalent to notepad. ( not as awesome though )

Re: Is Mac better than Windows?

All a matter of opinion. OS X is extremely different than the Windows platform (obviously)... I live by a philosophy. I build massive, crazy, powerful desktops, and buy Mac laptops. Period. They've always lasted me FOREVER and I like the OS X environment on the go.

Re: Is Mac better than Windows?

I had to use a Mac for an elective graphics class in school and had nothing but trouble. The thing would keep freezing over the simplest of tasks. I know that a few other people would use it during that semester and it probably did not have the best hardware but when just trying to open a web browser and the stupid thing would freeze and the little rainbow wheel would sit there for an hour, it kinda turned me off to Macs all together. Also, some say that they are the best for graphics but I found that it could do the same things as a PC and both would begin to lag under very similar tasks.

I would like to try one again with better specs and the latest OS because I am interested by their all in one setups. They cost 5 times as much as a PC with the same specs though and you cannot run nearly as many apps and games as a PC can but would like to have a Mac just to mess around with at times. I do not see myself buying one with their prices for something with the specs I want.

Re: Is Mac better than Windows?

Now that pcs can run osX there really is no good argument for spending the huge premium for buying a high end mac.

For the price of most mac entries you can buy a pc with much better specs and a copy of osx.

Re: Is Mac better than Windows?

Apple keeps a very tight leash on what hardware/software is allowed on stage.    They don't have to account for weird hardware concoctions people sometimes assemble, nor do they have to worry about some esoteric software not working with some particular hardware.    That makes the platform very integrated and reliable.   It 'just works', and a lot of people love that and  are willing to pay the extra $$ for that.    It's like buying a nice new coop in a complex where plumbing, electrical, lawns, pool are all maintained by pros for an additional fee - you just need to move in and enjoy.   But if  you try to pull out a drill and a hammer and try your own renovations, you just might get a tut-tut from the board.

PC platform is a lot more chaotic, diversified and less controlled.    Range of software is much wider.    A lot of 'Mac exclusives' would run just fine under Windows if not for the legal block.   Getting a PC is like buying a separate house where you have to figure out yourself all the vagaries of homeownership, free to do whatever you want, but no guarantee you won't end up with a huge mess.   More fun that way for me, personally.
