Combo deals should be compatible!

    Combo deals should be compatible!

I recently purchased a Biostar TA790GX 128M motherboard and AMD Phenom II 955 processor as a combo special.  The problem is the power architecture required for the Phenom Deneb 955 is not used on the TA790GX 128M.

Newegg's chat representative was kind enough to inform me that Newegg only offers combo specials to offer discounts to purchasers, but does not state that the products in the combo are compatible with each other.

I love Newegg, have never had an issue with them, and still love them.  I do not plan on changing my purchasing plans away from Newegg, however, if anyone in these forums has any contact with Newegg in a way that can help with this issue.  please please please try to convince them that this is not a good policy.  Items purchased as a combo, especially a processor/mobo combo, SHOULD WORK TOGETHER!!!

Re: Combo deals should be compatible!

Be happy that at least you had a motherboard that FIT the processor :-) because we have seen combo deals of Intel motherboards with AMD processors.

BIOSTAR TFORCE TA790GX 128M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

I should note that it has 4-stage power, but unfortunately that Biostar representative is right.

The combos should be compatible but that is not always the case unfortunately [as noted by AMD/Intel combo and your own small problem combo].

Good luck, hopefully you can return it for an exchange like: BIOSTAR TForce TA790GX A3+ AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

Re: Combo deals should be compatible!

I would agree very much that a combo deal being offered should be compatible.  I would think most people buying would think they are compatible and I doubt they are looking for (in this case) a cpu and a motherboard for different systems together.  Frankly to me is seems misleading to do something like that.  Personally I figure out which mb's and cpu's I am looking at before even looking at a combo deal so I know what I want and what it works with but many people looking at either the cpu or mb side first would likely assume any combo offered with a mb or cpu would work with the item they are looking at.

Re: Combo deals should be compatible!

Combo Deals are not about building a system, they are about clearing out old inventory. They are for value conscious system builders, not for hobbyists or people who don't want to do their own product research.

Thought this is a good suggestion. However, CAGG's explanation is reasonable as well...Errr. maybe Newegg can list a note aside the combo deals. Love Newegg, hope egg can become better & better~

    Bad Combo Deals

I sent an email to the Webmaster, but being the weekend, they are probably off.

The link below is to Combo Deals for AM3 MB's with AM2 CPU's,  which are not compatible with each other.

Just trying to keep Newegg from getting alot of irrate customers for that.

    Re: Bad Combo Deals

Yeah... Apparently the combos like that are just to move out old stock -- or so I've heard. Just ignore it or find the other thread like this to find out more.

Failed to open the link above..... but I do agree Newegg should consider offering us some or more combo deals that are compatible with each other. That would be so nice a thingStick out tongue

    Re: Bad Combo Deals

    Thanks for the posts everyone!

The 3 combo deals that I found listed on this thread (that contained AM2+ CPUs and AM3-only motherboards) have been removed, but that doesn't necessarily mean more aren't out there.

If anyone else finds incompatible combos, please post them here!

    Thanks & Best Regards,
    Paul

    Re: Bad Combo Deals

As stated combos are about discounts for inventory, NOT compatibility.

Volume or multiple system builders building multiple systems can take advantage of the discounts.

AS YOU CAN SEE, the Newegg solution is to REMOVE the discount, so nobody is happy, the single system builder or volume system builder. So go ahead, send a PM to Wyld, so he can remove the discount/combo.

I stick to my original point that combos are NOT about compatibility, they are about discounts for inventory.

    Re: Bad Combo Deals

Newegg should sell Combo deals as 100% compatibility. Otherwise whats the point of us buying it? Most of us only have 1 computer or just upgrading to a better one. Also most of us are not computer geeks that know everything. I for one expected to a combo deals are compatible for the same computer.

    Re: Bad Combo Deals

    So the choice being:

    A) Incompatible parts having a discount.

    B) Incompatible parts not having a discount.

You'd rather have B, because a combo SUGGESTS but does not absolutely spell out compatibility.

I will agree that it is a valid point (that I do not share)

As demonstrated, if you report any incompatible combos to Wyldstallyn (EggXpert/Newegg Staff) he will make sure the incompatible combo discounts are REMOVED.

I think that's sad because volume/system builders can no longer take advantage of the discounts, but that's just my (as valid as yours) opinion.
