    Why DRM?

    Article on Gamsutra:

However, 2D Boy's Carmel says that DRM is used not so much to thwart piracy -- since it's not very good at that -- as it is to combat the used game market.

"Publishers aren't stupid. They know that DRM doesn't work against piracy," he explains. "What they're trying to do is stop people from going to GameStop to buy $50 games for $35, none of which goes into the publishers' pockets. If DRM permits only a few installs, that minimizes the number of times a game can be resold."

Given the context of limited installs, this is about the only thing that makes sense.   Limited installs don't combat piracy, but they do affect the used games market.  It's stupid, though, since used games sales will drive upstream revenue for new games.

I still buy them used, go online and get a crack. I don't feel bad at all.

My point is, they're driving Mercedes and I walk my butt everywhere.

The ASUS M4A78-E sucks, don't get it.

    Re: Why DRM?

I don't mind DRM and I'll buy a game regardless whether it has it or not.  As long as it dosn't interfere with my gameplay then I could care less.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Clear Sky is a prime example of this.  My game ran awesome for about a month until the DRM completely locked me out of my own game, which I had legally purchased from the local Gamestop.  Deep Silver and GSC won't, or can't, even help me and the countless others who have the same problem.  That is when I can no longer tolerate DRM.
