Hello all, I bought a gigabyte GA-EP35C-DR3R board one year or so ago. It's a combo DDR2/DDR3 board, I always had some problems with perfect memory compatibility with it when setting timing on the bios and checking them with memtest. If I leave the board on full auto I get no errors on 64 bit XP but I would like to change some settings to give me some flexibility.
I had been told that using combo/hybrid technologies is asking for trouble but I might still give it a last shot trying to use the DDR3 banks
Otherwise I'll just use another board I have a GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P which supports DDR2-1200 and hopefully have no more problems (with this board i can also load up to 16 gigs while with the other one I am limited to 8Gb in DDR2 and 4Gb in DDR3, Ideally 16 Gigs of Fast DDR2 should perform better than a 4GB of DDR3, I don't know for sure but I need big loads of Ram to handle heavy 3D models in Maya)
Which memory would you suggest for either of these boards with the abovementioned hardware configurations? Possibly with certified compatibility.
I would like to eventually try to max out the GA-EP45-UD3P with the fastest ram I can manage to get (ie. DDR2-1200 for this board 4GBx4 - I'm not sure how many mamory slots this mobo has.. I think 4) for a total of 16gb
thanks a lot
