I had the first 40k Dawn of War Strategy game from relic and I played the hell out of it for a while. I really like their games.

Does anyone play the new one and how do they think it compares?

Is it just a graphical re-hash of the first with fewer races and cooperative campaign play or does it offer more?

How do you like it?

Its a whole new game and I have to say i'm not a fan.

They pretty much got rid of base building and made the game all about squad control. Maybe fun for some people but not why I play rts. Even my freind who is a warhammer nut and loves everything warhammer was let down. Seems like they just dumbed the game down and when compared to games like supcom it was already a pretty simple rts.

but that's just my take, the game did get good reviews. There was a demo on steam you could try, I'm not sure if it's still up.

   DoW 2 seems more like a hybrid rpg/rts from what I've seen/read.  I won't pick it up because it requires both Steam and Windows Live just to play the single player campaign or just to access the simplest of features.  No game is worth that much hassle imo.

   Is it also true that windows live requires a credit card number for age verification?  If so, another reason why I won't pick up DoW 2 just out of business practice.

I did look for the demo on Steam I must have missed it. If anyone has a working download link that'd be great.

It kinda sounds like Star Wars Empire at War...where you just fly your troops in and base building is not much of an affair.

If that is the case I would have to agree that I don't find much fun in that. Glad I asked.
