Can i use and overclock this?

First off i have this motherboard EVGA 132-YW-E180-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i SLI http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188031

It says it can run core 2 duo but i notice the fsb is 1066 on the chip but the mb says it takes 1333/1600, can i run this chip? and if so can i overclock it on this board? I have the zalman 9700 cpu fan and if it can be ocd how high can i go? I think it is a conroe e6600 2.4 1066 fsb core 2 duo, got it for free is why i want to run it, saves me a few bucks for a while until i eventually will get the q9650. Thanks in advance

Yeah Core 2 Duos with 1066 FSB are supported, and you can oveclock (voiding warranty) as much as your cooling solution allows you to.

Re: Can i use and overclock this?

Thanks is there a certain type of ram i should use, my mb is ddr3 but with only the e6600 2.4 would getting lets say ddr 3 2000, would i get the full potential of the ram of will the cpu slow it down or limit its output?

Re: Can i use and overclock this?

if you can use ddr3 2000 then go ahead, full potential i don't know about that since you need to run it @ least 2000mhz fsb   since your cpu has a fsb of 1066 stock you would need some aggressive ram dividers or a very gd ocing cpu ..  to get it up to 2000mhz   i think you cpu would be the bottleneck here unless you can get it upto 2000mhz  do some research see what the norm is on this cpu/mobo combo while ocing ddr3 and try to duplicate there findings  at the very least you would have plenty of overhead to work with . -good luck on the oc's

ok, i was actually thinking of ddr3 1600 or 1333, just wondering what i should use for this combo, or should i get the 1066 ddr3? i am confused about this fsb thing

Re: Can i use and overclock this?

If you are "confused about this FSB thing" overclocking is NOT in your future.

If you are SERIOUS about overclocking, yo'd be out doing your own research about it, so you wouldn't be asking basic questions in the wrong way on a technical help forum.

FYI: CPU FSB and Memory Speed ARE NOT THE SAME. They are seperate setting your your BIOS that, depending on motherboard, are not always related.

Re: Can i use and overclock this?

Got it now, earlier post confused me, i read it wrong. As for doing research i read  few 2004 articles about my chip. They were very outdated and i had this new mb with newer ddr3 ram so I thought i would ask a question about it. I will oc this fine, thanks anyways everyone who responded normally
