    Need Help Here!

Ok guys, heres the deal. I plan to upgrade my computer next month with two components...

    1. Sound Card
    2. CPU

I would like to upgrade both components, but only have $400 to spend (including sales tax to NJ and shipping). I am a gamer and would like the best bang for my buck, WITHOUT overclocking.

I can either get the Q6600 with a high end gaming sound card (probably the Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer), or the Q9550 with a low end sound card (probably the Creative Audigy SE). Onboard sound is really annoying me. Game elements that should sound sharp sound muzzled.

What would be the best option for me, even if I didn't list it? Thanks.

    Re: Need Help Here!

The reason why I wasn't considering the 9400 is because if you go for the 9550 you get double the cache size.

    Re: Need Help Here!

Even with double cache size, you would only see a 5% improvement, or some low number like that.  Just overclock the 9400, and all is swell.

    Re: Need Help Here!

I'd rather go with Q9550 with more L2 cache. maybe a low end sound card is not that bad.

to overclock Q9400? I think it is better to go with E8500 the higher frequency and the same L2 cache moreover  it has great poteatial for overclocking.
