    CPU fan not running

I just recently purchased AMD Athlon X2 6000.. here is the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103773

I am trying to install it on Asus M3A79-T Delux... here is the link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131339&Tpk=ASUS%20M3A79-T%20Deluxe

For some reason my power supply was able to turn on, as well as my graphics card, but my CPU fan will not run.  I think I installed it correctly, I've checked the manual for both the cpu and the motherboard and I still cannot figure out why it won't run.  Any tips?

    PSU: Corsair TX 750

    GPU: Nvidia 8800 GTS

You have the 4/8 pin connector near the CPU connected from the PSU to the main board right?

Have you tried another fan. (even a case fan, just to see if it will spin, don't run the PC long)

Did you hook up the 4 or 8 pin cpu power connector? Edit: Oops, didn't refresh the page before posting, and I see someone has asked, hehe.

    Re: CPU fan not running

I hooked up the 8 pin CPU connector as the motherboard manual recommended that.

I also just bought the Zalman CPU heatsink and plugged the 3 pin into the pwr_fan (the cpu_fan requires 4 pins) and it turned on.  So I think this justifies the AMD heatsink being defective?

Defective fan would be my first thought. Plugging your three prong fan into the CPU four prong fan header should make it spin (see the wiring diagram on your motherboard manual). That will demonstrate your CPU fan header is not defective at least as far as power goes.  Concomitantly, you should be able to plug the CPU fan into the three prong header (see manuals wiring diagram) for the system fan... it should go on full blast... if not fan is defective.

    Freedom's the Answer.
    What's the Question?

    Re: CPU fan not running

Okay, I tested the 3 pin into the 4 pin slot and my cpu fan will not start.  It seems that the cpu_fan is not working at all, because I tested the original AMD heatsink in the 3 pin pwr_fan and it turned on.

Does this mean I have to RMA the motherboard and get a new one? :\

    Re: CPU fan not running

There is the slight possibilty that the main board doesn't see enough heat to turn on the CPU fan. In that case, go into your BIOS and turn the fan on 100% all of the time and see if it works.

Also, you said that it won't turn on the fan, but, does it post can you get into the bios? if not, try another PSU as if the CPU doesn't turn on, the fan won't either.

    Re: CPU fan not running

I'd like to make a quick update that I can get to the post.  However, nothing I do seems to work so I believe the cpu_fan is defective.  I have another question to go along with that, too.

Since cpu_fan is defective, should I return the motherboard, or use another fan slot? Other fan slots DO work for my cpu fan, but is there a difference between using the cpu_fan slot and a different fan slot?
