I'd like to stream video from my pc (from my DVD player) to another on the Internet via Yahoo Instant Messenger (YIM).

 My current setup is:  Vista 64-bit Ultimate,  8800GT video card, 8GB RAM, and a Q6600 processor.

 Question is this, can I purchase a video tuner/capture card like this:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814122180, run a short SVIDEO cable from the 'out' on my 8800GT to the "in" on that video card, then configure YIM to see that card as a webcam?

 If there's a better way - I'm open to it.

Sure, you could get a capture/tuner card and use that signal as your webcam feed.

But, this can all be accomplished through software alone. Get some software that can capture your screen as the webcam feed.
