    XP instead of Vista

    Hi,

Does anybody know if it is possible to  order laptops from newegg with XP instead of Vista installed?  Actually, the laptop in question is

    ASUS M51 Series M51TA-X2

Also, in case this isn't possible, does the laptop come with a driver cd with which I can then install XP on it?  Has anybody succeeded in this?

If there is no driver cd (for xp), can I download one from somewhere, or does anybody have a download strategy to follow (like get lan and wifi driver, then download  driver update software, then launch driver update software top get all other drivers).

    Thx

No it is not possible reason is that Newegg is not Asus. Newegg is a retailer where as Asus is a manufacture.

And all the drivers are only meant for Vista 32bit. Asus will provide the drivers but only for Vista on that particular laptop.

yup, all you can do is to use vista or buy a copy of xp. the asus does supply the drivers for xp. Acer provide drivers for xp in most of their categories. if you do want use xp, it is better to  go with a lappy  with xp  pre installed

or you should buy a lappy with windows vista business or what? i am not sure, which can be downgrade to xp.

    Re: XP instead of Vista

Newegg has some laptops with XP preinstalled. Like ASUS Eee PC 1000H 80G, ASUS Eee PC 901 XP , ASUS Eee PC 1000 40G, ASUS Eee PC 900 black XP . Hope it helps. But if you don't like these laptops, I guess you have to buy a copy of XP. I don't know any place where you can download an XP.

    Re: XP instead of Vista

In 99% there is no way to downgrade laptop with Vista to XP. I tried many times on Sony, HP, Acer(don't even think about buying) and Toshiba and there isn't enough of drivers. If You have one at home and You know there are drivers for xp on the website, think again.
I spoke with agents from all these barnds and all didn't know what to do. Drivers aren't the only thing to install winXP. Let's say, you will go to Best Buy and ask to downgrade any laptop. They will charge You for the OS and service and will say that even if they succeed they won't give You warranty of working.
Beside that if You try to downgrade OS, You won't get any software that you have with Vista.

    Re: XP instead of Vista

You only get what it comes with.

If you really have something against Vista you can buy an oem copy of XP and put it on there.

Not sure why you would do that on a new pc... but... whatever floats your boat. Wink
