    Putting a computer on carpet

First, please excuse me if this is the wrong section. I think this is where it should go, but wasn't sure. Hmm

Now, I'll be doing my first build soon and I plan on just placing it on the floor next to my desk. I've heard some things like putting it on carpet will make it gather more dust or something about static electricity frying everything. I'd just like to know if there's anything dangerous about putting a computer on carpet.

Yes there is a big danger of damaging your computer if you build it on the carpet static electricity could zap any of the cards or even the mobo without you knowing it and if after you build the computer and you set it on the carpet the fans that pull air into the computer will also draw in more dust causing things to burnout early due to overheating and getting clogged with dust.Cool

Re: Putting a computer on carpet

my comp room is all carpet as well and easiest way i found is to place it on top of a peice of cardboard cut to the same size as the bottom of your case, it works for me and unless you're really looking is hard to tell, if it sticks out too much take some black spray paint and paint the cardboard. this may not be an acceptable solution for your needs but just an ideaYes
