I'm looking to get an XFX 9600GT XXX edition, and I was wondering what the minimum power requirement would be for my system. I have:

-AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+

-2GB NECC dual channel DDR2

-160GB SATA HDD

-16X DVD+/-RW

A descent 550W PSU should get you, if your overclocked any I would go for 650W or higher.

Thats a 4800+ X2 939 socket? if so that CPU can draw 110W OC'd or more so I'd recommend that.

GmsCool: If that was a 939 socket CPU, it would use DDR1, not the DDR2 he listed.  So, it's socket AM2.

I'll do a max power estimate for you:

AMD 64 X2 4800+: 65watts

GPU: 98watts(the XFX 9600GT XXX card uses about the same amount of power as the stock one)

optical drive: 25watts

hard drive: 10watts

motherboard: 50watts

cooling, RAM, pci cards: 50watts

total, at max draw: 298watts

 So, you could go with the Antec Earthwatts 430watt power supply that newegg currently has on sale for $35 w/ free shipping.  That's a high quality seasonic-made power supply with high efficiency and a quiet fan. 

If you plan to do some heavy overclocking, or if you think you might run SLI in the future, you'd be better off getting the OCZ StealthXStream 600watt power supply.  That's currently on sale for only $54 w/ free shipping at newegg.  According to a review of that power supply at HardwareSecrets.com, that 600watt model is actually capable of putting out about 728watts of power, amazingly enough.

that should be fine, however, as noted in the Eggxpert Tiered Power Supply List, the Cooler Master eXtreme power supplies are overrated by about 100watts.  So, don't try to draw more than 450watts from that power supply.   Other than that, though, that's a decent seventeam-made power supply.
