Hi All.

Wondering if someone could help me out. I have two motherboards that I want to get more memory for. One is an Asus M2V-TVM (Max 2GB DDR2 667) and the other an Asus M2N-E (Max 8GB DDR2 800).

I have used the 'Memory Configurator' from Newegg, Crucial, Patriot, Kingston, Corsair etc. I was wondering...are the models they list the only compatible ones? Does it mean that purchasing a non-listed memory would be a mistake? I thought the motherboard would accept whatever memory you throw at it as long as it meets the specification?

Ive never used the memory thing on the website, but if you know you ddr2 memory then you could stick any ddr2 no matter what speed into the motherboard, just it would be a waste to buy faster than 667 for the first board because the motherboard would just clock down the memory clock to that spread from what ever speed its at when bought... So if you match the ddr2 part of the memory there really no way you could make a mistake..

i never use the "memory configurator" IMO, all the mobo has the ddr2 800 slots will support any ddr2 800 ram. but sometimes there are exceptions. moreover, adding more memory may result in incompatibility issues if you choose the wrong RAM. it is recommended to choose the same kind of ram. but most of the time, we mix the different brands of ram. compatibility  is not a big issue nowadays.

Usually, you can use any ram which measures up the memory standard, whatever brand

 

they are. However, if you want to set up a dual channel, you'd better choose rams with the

 

same brand and capability for the stability of your computer, because the dual channel

 

technology has a stricter standard on rams.
