Sony NEC Optiarc AD7590A not recognizing any media

    Hello,

Recently I purchased a new SONY NEC Optiarc AD 7590A DVD RW optical drive from Newegg to replace a broken NEC AD 6500 drive in my HP Pavilion zv 6000 notebook.  After installing the new drive into my computer, the drive is recognize in the device manager with the drivers unable to read any media; CDs, DVDs burnt or commercial.  I've tried reinstalling the drive and its drivers, but the same thing keeps recurring.  I am not sure what the problem is.  Do optical drives have to compatable with motherboard bios?  Both the new and the original optical drives have IDE interfaces, and I am running Windows XP ( 32 bit).

If need any more permissions than what I provided just asked.  Any help is appreciated.
