    Q on notebook hard drives

I have a Gateway MX3414 that has been getting the BSOD a lot.  After running some diagnostics it appears that the hard drive is on the way out (reallocated sector count = 1).  I am having trouble finding the exact same hard drive (Seagate ST9100825A), and would like to find something compatible through newegg.

    The specs are as follows:

ATA 100.  I assume that means I can't go with a SATA drive.  Would ATA 6 be compatible?

PC conn type 44 pin IDC.

    Form factor 2.5" x 1/8H

Seek time 12.5ms, Spindle speed 4200 rpm ( I assume these should not matter for compatibility).

Is there anything else I should look for, and/or be aware of prior to making my purchase?

    Thanks, Cindy

correct.  SATA data and power connectors are different.

yes.  I believe that this is in the FAQ.

true, but note that faster spinning drives usually, (though not always if your drive is quite old,) requires more power and will thus drain your battery faster.

Thank you so much Tallon41, your reply is most helpful.  I must have missed that bit in the FAQ (I did scan them Frustrated).

    Cheers ~ Cindy
