Tongue Tied [:S] Upside Down HD Mounting

I'm looking at a Mini Tower Cooler Master case and one of the hard drive mounting options is upside down (I found that out after looking at a review of the case). Call me paranoid, but for me anything except the upright horizontal mounting, doesn't seem right to me. Vertical mounting, on the side mounting I can live with......but upside down, just doesn't seem right.

Anyone can tell me if there is a chance of reducing the life of the hard drive that way?

    Re: Upside Down HD Mounting

I've mounted drives upside down all the time and they don't have issues. Drives don't have any components that depend on or are degraded by an upside down mounting.

    Re: Upside Down HD Mounting

The only downside to mounting a hd upside down would be that the circuit board of the hd would be exposed more than normal to the wires running accross it and touching it. I know that older harddrives like back a while ago had restriction on how the hardrive could be mounted, but most modern day drives has no restrictions at all. Considering most severs run hardrives on there sides I dont see why you would have an issue, but if anything read the documentation that comes with the hd and see if it does have any restrictions.

    Re: Upside Down HD Mounting

I've done it in the past, but I've had some somewhat close calls with dropping something (small c**p like screws) onto the integrated board while installing other stuff.  Remedied it by putting the ESD sleeve on top of it.
