    Physically Damaged Items

    I ordered a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130332&Tpk=EVGA%2b384-P3-N851-AR%2bGeForce%2b8800%2bGS%2b384MB%2b192-bit

I heard a rattling sound from inside the packaging. Opened it up and found that a transitor and it's washer had broken off from somewhere inside the video card. The packaging was not damaged in anyway and the transitor appeared to have come from under the protective metal shield. There's no way this was damaged by the shipping, it must have been broken before shipping. I RMAed it back to newegg only to discover that newegg is immune to physical damage claims, even though it was obviously broken before it was shipped. I called up customer service and was put on hold for 19 minutes, the rep did file my shipping claim for me though.

So I guess what I'm wondering is how likely is it that UPS refunds me despite the fact that it's obvious they are not at fault?

    Re: Physically Damaged Items

UPS nor Fedex in my experience will never refund you because a faulty product was shipped to you. To them aslong as its not there fault and you dont have proof, ur just sol my friend. If you do get your money back then I would be greatly surprised.

So Newegg basically fleeced me of $119.99. Great. Thanks newegg.

    Re: Physically Damaged Items

people RMA defective products to newegg all the time not sure what the problem is, maybe you explained the problem in a weird way?. Alternatively you could also contact the manufacturer for an rma to them but it's normally more of an ordeal.

If you are having problems PM Jas0n or sj1dog  they are admins and help sort this stuff out all the time

    Re: Physically Damaged Items

I dont think newegg is gonna steal from you, but instead I though you were asking bout the shipping fee from ups or fedex. In this case however im sure you'll either get your money back or a replacement. Newegg does have the best rma service Ive ever dealt with, and im sure you'll be happy in the end.

    Re: Physically Damaged Items

Defective is not the same as pysically damaged. Newegg does not RMA physically damaged items because people break computer parts while trying to install them and part of the license agreement that you agree to when you buy from newegg is that they are not responsible for physically damaged items because newegg assumes all physically damaged items are the fault of the installer. Meaning they can sell you physically broken parts and there is nothing you can do about it.Which is what just happened to me.

    Re: Physically Damaged Items

Then send it back to evga the company that made the broken product. I don't see the big deal this is a pretty standard policy to keep etailers/retailers safe from stupid customers ( I'm not implying your one of them you clearly have a legit problem). Even most retailers like walmart have similar policy's with some of their products. Contact EVGA and they should be able to help you out.

Have you tried using the card to make sure the parts are actually broken off of the card and did not just find their way into the box at the factory?

Newegg probably has a record of it now but next time just rma as it doesn't work don't go into details.

    Re: Physically Damaged Items

Yeah, I don't see how you think it wasnt damaged during shipping. If a NE shipper picked up that retail packed video card and heard something rattling around, most likely they'd put it aside. Do you know how much of a Gorilla UPS brown shirts can be? LOL. They toss them packages around like they're refuse. I would bet anything thats what happened. Some Borwn shirt gunned that thing across the trailer and it jostled them parts off.

No disrepect friend, but I just don't see how you don't think it couldnt happen during shipping.

EVGA should replace it though, they're great with RMA/Warranty.

    Re: Physically Damaged Items

EVGA may have a good warranty but if you need to have a part shipped to a different address, you are basically stuck as their form doesn't give you an option to change it from what you have on record with them.  You can email them after you get the RMA info filled out, but at least in my case, I emailed them immediately after finihsing the RMA requirements they needed and they shipped my replacement but they apparently read my email.  My wife is currently deployed so no one is home during the day so I requested to have it sent to my work address.  Instead it is coming here again.  the same thing happened with my last RMa with them as well. I requested to have it sent to my work address as well and they sent it to my house instead.  I also have not had a good experience dealing with their customer service staff and I have now had to RMA both the products I purchased from EVGA, a video card and a motherboard.  So to me, all of this adds up to no longer purchasing EVGA in the future.

    Re: Physically Damaged Items

The reason I don't think it was broken during shipping is because the card was secure in the packaging. The only way UPS broke it is if the transistor was hanging on by a thread, which meant it was broken before it was shipped anyway.

I left a very angry review of the card, and stated it was my last newegg purchase. I  was then contacted by customer support. The next day the shipping claim magically goes through.

Customer support seems to be the same everywhere for me. I'll be polite, curteous and patient and it gets me nowhere. As soon as i start throwing a fit and being as dramatic as possible I get results. I hate being that guy, but it's the only way it works.
