XP Pro SP2 on new Build?

    Hi,

I have everything in and up and going, don't see the settings for anything but IDE in the BIOS. The BIOS does show SATA1 as thw WD HD and the SATA2 as the ASUS DVD burner, put the XP CD in and it started loading but when I get to the load windows now hit enter and all I get is a Please wait... and a hung up machine. What now?

You need to install the SATA drivers. There should be a disk that came with your motherboard for SATA.

BooHoo [cry] Re: XP Pro SP2 on new Build?

Well I got everything in and assembled, fired it up and thought I had it made until I could not load XP Pro.

    1. Gets to load windows and hangs-up as in first post. I thought this was due to other post saying I needed to load SATA drivers but this is not the case, my Bios sees the HDD and the only choice it gives is IDE(No other options) on the SATA configuration in set-up.

2.Flashed BIOS to get to the latest ver. 0501 at the recommendation of another forum, this went well and no problems that I can see. Tried testing the memory with memtest86+ on iso image, boots up, starts to run then hangs, never could figure this one out. Tried the one stick of RAM at a time and one goes to 25% and hangs with nothing on the lower part of the screen, the other stick of RAM oes to 66% and hangs with alot of numbers on the lower part of the screen but nothing RED

As a last resort took it to a computer repair place in town and they could not help either, They didn't run alot of test or anything but said everything in the BIOS looked good and it might be my XP disk. Came home and took one stick of RAM out at their suggestion and tried loading XP, got past the please wait....., screen pressed F8 to continue and the computer rebooted on its own, happened 3 times. Tried the other stick and it just hangs at the please wait..... screen.

I need some advice as I have removed the mobo and RAM to RMA then for replacements or refund and go to different mobo and RAM if needed. What do you guy's think?

I would say go for a different mobo at this point. But that is just me

I like Gygabye becuse there BIOS and board are more forgiving.

Re: XP Pro SP2 on new Build?

I was wanting to stay under $150, don't intend to game with this machine so will not need SLI or CrossFire it is more of a CAD type machine. I wasn't thinking of RAID, just need a real stable mobo that is not hard to set-up and get going. The ability to OC might be nice to tweak some settings and get memory and cpu speeds correct as I learn how to do this but not of extreme importance right now. What would you recommend with these parameters.

    Thanks for your help.

Re: XP Pro SP2 on new Build?

Well after 2hrs of talking to tech support at CORSAIR and running each dimm through each slot on the mobo we came to the conclusion that I had serious issues with something. I then called ASUS and got completely brushed off and their second tier support was quite rude if I may say so myself. Newwegg is going to let me return the MOBO and RAM with no restocking fee ( thanks Newegg). You guys can see the specs on the other stuff I have and I am humbly looking for your advice as what to get to make them run good(mobo and compatable ram) with some future proofing as they say. Absolutely no ASUS products please.
