Crysis - Why so hard to run?
I have been thinking for a great time 'why is crysis so hard to run'? I have seen the game on maximum settings at a LAN place a few times. Its really not all that impressive. The graphics of Crysis are overrated in my opinion. But whats odd is that Core 2 Quad Extremes pared with dual 9800 GX2's cry? I believe that the writer (programmer) of Crysis might have done a poor job, which might explain why the game is extremely hard to run for a computer. Or would he write it to be hard to run on purpose? If he created a game very few computer could run on maximum, would people buy it just to see if they can run it? Yes. People buy Crysis just to see why its so hard to run, and to test their machines. I have beaten Crysi and its a boring and repetitive game. So feel free to post why you believe Crysis is so hard to run.

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
I do agree with you that the programming in Crysis aren't that well make and even the best setup on max setting will suffer lags. COD4 on the other hand isn't as sharp in image but the game is a lot more playable even with mid end graphic cards. To me just the programming that cause this difference.

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
Because Crysis is the Flag ship game that nvidia and ATi are pushing their card towards. Everyone wants to be able to say they can max it out with high res with no lag.
But on one can, because the game just isn't designed to play nice with current hardwear, and because the coding for the game is really bad, there are hacks to make it more playable, and even to make it look better. :-p
I personally am over it as I played the game on my friends super computer @ 1680x1050 with everything on very high. he had 3 8800 Ultra's overclocked very high with a 4.2 ghz wuad core.
The game ran as smooth as was needed as far as my eyes could tell, some minor stuter but it all looked gorgeous.
I beat it, I'm done with it.
I'd recommend waiting another 6 months or so... until all the hype dies down and the game gets more patches.
Or if you can't wait google some hacks and see what you can turn up :-p

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
Crysis is one of the first DirectX 10 games. It is a highly anticipated PC shooter, mostly because of its stunning visuals. However, the better they look, the more demanding they are, any PC gamer will tell you that. Some of the technology it will utilize include dynamic day/night cycle, fully interactive environments, sunrays and diffuse transmission, real time soft shadows, soft particles, intercaive/destructible environments, and volumetric clouds. Also, the sound of this game is also accurate.

Every game I have heard of starts out this way. I bet you money, even with all the extra time they've taken on it, Starcraft II will be full of bugs, and issues like everything

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
Very poor coding by the makers. Check out the new Crysis followup game comming soon that uses an improved code base and you will see a huge improvement.

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
I can play it with everything maxed at 1920 X 1200 and the frame rates are not bad, no stuttering and mostly smooth enough to not notice. It is a shooter and shooters tend to bore me quickly. I got it just to see what it looks like and to see how well I can run it. I just realized that my rig is now 18 months old already and yet there is really nothing out there that makes me want to upgrade any of my major componnents. Perhaps later in the year, I hope.
Asus Commando, QX6700@2.93, 4GB Corsair PC28500 Dom, Tt Armor case, BFG 1KW PSU, BFG 8800GTX OC, 2 Raptors in RAID 0 for OS and Apps & 2 Raptors in SATA for music and graphic files and a WD7500AAKS (.75Tb) for large files, video files and back up, X-Fi, 2 Samsung monitors 245t and 244t's @ 1920 X 1200, Plextor opticals, Aerocool, Zalman, Etc. Hey best of luck to you then.
I am always questing to have latest and greatest, even though I know its a rich mans dream and it's always a changing world out there with new components coming out all the time.
As it stands now...
My rig looks like this.
CM Stacker 830 with 8 Aerocool fans (4 140's and 4 120's) Evga 780i Mobo. Q6600 @ 3.8 4 Gigs of Kingston Hyper X 1066 ram (5-5-4-12) 1 GTX 260....for now.... Gonna be buying another when money is willing and prices have dropped. 2 Velociraptors in Raid 0 4 Samsung Spinmpoint 1TB drives in Raid 5 MX 5500 Bluetooth desktop set Logitech Z5500 5.1 speakers Samsung 40" 1080p HDTV which I game on @ 1920x1080.
Idk, I just feel like my system could be faster and running a little better. Maybe I'm crayz... haha. I don't plan on any more upgrades though aside from my 2nd GTX 260 card. Then I can wait on nehalem, good DDR3 ram and a SINGLE CARD that can play crysis maxed out @ 1920x1080 on Very high with all the AA and AF maxed and get 50-60 FPS on AVG with a MIN of 40. I may also decided to finally get my feet wet and jump into water cooling then.

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
Yeah I totally agree, I played the Crysis Demo and was not at all impressed by the quality of the graphics. Looked very much like COD4 or similar titles.
In my opinion there is no reason this title should require so much from the computer. If there is some kind of advanced physics or something going on it didn't make a large enough impact for me to notice hence no way in hell I'd pay thousands trying to upgrade my machine for it.
Don't get me wrong the polish was there in the graphics but I didn't see it as anything other than a new shooter using the same techniques as many games before it.
Kinda feel the same about Age of Conan, looks nice, some new gameplay mechanics but really not the "shock n awe" I'm expecting from a next gen game.
That's what she said...

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
I really have to disagree there. crysis is hands down the nicest looking game out there when maxed out. no doubts about it. maybe with everything on low it looks like cod 4.
But you can't deny its beauty.
It's jsut not worth paying to play this title when it takes $1500 in video cards to play it! (i.e. 3 GTX 280's)

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
I cant play on all very high but I just finished the game on High at 1920x1080 on a 32" LCD HDTV and I have to say I was very iompressed with this game. I can definitely see the argument that its poorly coded, theres really no reason it should be THAT hard for a computer to run this game. Regardless though I agree with the other folks who liked it. I never noticed any lag throughout the entire game. I'm running a Q6600 @ 3.0 4GB OCZ Reapers, Zotac 9800GTX AMP, and a 250GB SATA Maxtor .
Q6600 G0 @3.0Ghz,Evercool Sharks CPU Cooler, 2x2GB OCZ Reaper DDR2 800Mhz@ 1000Mhz, Zotac 9800GTX AMP Edition, MSI P7N SLI Platinum, 32"LCD HDTV, 19" LCD, Creative Inspire 7.1 Surround System, Razer Tarantula & Copperhead Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
I'm tired of the " its not designed for today's hardware" excuse, Cryengine2 is not optimized, same like Cryengine when farcry first came out, it ran like c**p on most systems
The graphics are overrated in my oppinion even though it is the best looking game

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
the GTX 260 is nice but SLI mostly slows thing down and dual core performs better for games not quad. so if you wanted your rig to perform better you should of gotten the E8400. Crysis is really overrated. The graphics are nice and I unders stand all the physics but no game should push a comp that hard no comp should bring 2 9800GX2's or 4870s to their kness in 1900 x 1200. It's just poor programming.

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
I wouldn't say Cyrsis is hands down the best looking game out there. Gears and UT3 look just as amazing they just lack the physics and real time bells and whistles. Crysis does look nice but it doesn't have lasting appeal. The multi-player is fun but not amazing or addicting. More people play WOW than Crysis. You don't need much to run Crysis you can run it on high with a decent dual core and 8800GT. thats a nice mid range priced card.

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
Its entertaining I think most will admit. The graphics are superb. Better than allot of other games I've played. I thought the detail and interaction was way advanced. Its come a long way sense FarCry thats for sure. I love still playing that too!!
I dunno, I dont think there's some major conspiracy building a game thats resource intensive, but you gotta know the hardware makers love it. And many of us do to. I read someone knocking braggin rights, so one could say they play Crysis at so and so a level. What;'s wrong with that? braggin rights is braggin rights, you got a good rig, you should be able too. Who wouldnt love to tell people they're crankin 3 Ultras!!!! LOL.
It's a great game. I love COD4 too. Bioshock another. HL2, so come on, enjoy. Save the whimpering for your classroom Mac.lmao.

Re: Crysis - Why so hard to run?
I can agree with that! I run it on very high with AA on 4x with just my little Zotac 8800GT 1GB OC'd at 950Mhz and 775Mhz!!!!! oh res is 1680 x 1050 With the new patches Crysis isn't even that demanding.
