    Upgrading my processor, need advice

I have it narrowed down to these 3:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103251

They all look good,, the second one is only dual core, but it has better specifications in other fields. also, there is a cheaper solution that does not come with a heatsink:

    but its out of stock.

So for a budget gamer looking for the best possible solution for the lowest price, what would you all reccomend?

you'd really have to decide which make you want to go, Intel or AMD, before someone could give you  an opinion. What motherboard will you be using? RAM, GPU, etc? If you're looking for a generic answer, the E8400 will do everything you want, unless your using multithreaded apps, then a quad. You're gonna get faster performance out of Intels, used to be better price out of AMD, but that doesnt even neccessirly hold true anymore.

If you provide a budget, a main uses of what you want a PC to do, and a CPU make option, you'll get more detailed answers.

No offense, but right now, the way you've posed your inquiry, it'll just spin into an Intel vs AMD and Quad vs Dual Core thread.

There's a ton of those in the folder, peruse them.

    Penewah!

    The 2nd one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017

    is a Quard Core.

The first one is only a Dual Core.

Get either the Quad Core or the Phenom depending on how much you want to spend. The Intel Quad Core's are faster but the AMD Phenoms are cheaper.

Re: Upgrading my processor, need advice

well, right now, i don't have a motherboard that supports any of those processors. i did post my system specs, but here they are again: 2gb A-Data ddr2 800, EVGA geforce 9600gt, amd athlon 64 x2 3800+ @ 2.0ghz, being powered by a rosewill 500w psu, (which i also plan to upgrade before the purchase of a new processor,) running on a biostar nforce 520 le board, which will also be replaced. In terms of budget, i just want to spend under 200, but if the phenom thats 135 right now will give me only slightly less performance than the other 3 i have listed, i'll want to go with that. Like i said i use my computer for gaming, and then the obvious such as music/video/internet (which it can already handle....) after i buy a new psu/board, and finally one of these processors, i plan on getting another 9600gt and running sli with all this stuff. And yes, i already have a psu lined up that will run it all. So in the long run i guess, for a gamer who wants a proc that will last a while, and all that stuff (i dont really run multithreaded apps) which of these would be the best?

    thanks.

Re: Upgrading my processor, need advice

If you want to do a complete build that is ok but that board is not a bad board only a little old.  A little voltage bump should let you put the CPU at or close 3ghz.  That with a new graphics card should put you at or over 10,000 in 3dmark if it's a 4850 or 4870 and give decent gaming performance.  Instead of a whole new system a $200 graphics card.  Yeh that should be about right I just checked futuremark forums for #'s.  Wow if I had the cash I could own ORB.  Some low benches on the AMD side.  I thought my system was going to hit 10000 tough too, just over 9000 though with two x1950's.

I didn't see any Phenom at 135 except the 8450 tricore???  Without multithreaded apps would show about the same speed as you have now, a little faster.  I believe the phenom blacks do have a cpu cooler though unlike most other black editions.

If you act like you are going to copy and paste a word/highlight it with cursor then you can use the liitle chain link things in the message toolbar to paste a link to and just use whatever word you want for the link. as in E8400.  No worries took me a time or two to figure it out.

    Edit

I didn't see the LE version so if you point me to the correct board to make sure you have the bios settings.
