    Overclocking for dummies.

    Hello all.

I am by no means a computer eggspert. I have a 65 watt, Brisbane core, Athlon AMD 64 X2 4800+ CPU. I am planning on using it for a build. I am thinking of placing it in a Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 mobo. I have the stock aluminum piece of cooler, oops....did I say that, sorry. I am thinking of using the Arctic Cooler 64pro cooler compatible with this cpu. Long story short, I would like some advice on the easiest way to safely OC this CPU, if it can be OC'ed at all. I want to keep it air cooled, and close to stock voltages, and I'm just not sure how far to push this CPU, or even if it is possible. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all, in advance.

    Re: Overclocking for dummies.

You should be able to get it to 3.0 Ghz without Vdimm bump, http://xtreview.com/review166.htm , anything higher looks like a challenge. The 12.5 hammer is the hold back, you're gonna have to go old school and crank the clock. And the article sez you'll do better with a reduced mem ratio, but remember all dies ahve different caps, though ther's general range with AMDs.

Need to learn the basics? Here's a super reference: http://hardwarelogic.com/news/127/ARTICLE/2646/2008-02-01.html

Good luck, keep the toast in the kitchen , and out of the motherboard. Big Smile
