    Enemy Territory: Quake Wars problems on Vista SP1

    I recently formatted my drive to install Vista SP1 (previously I had the original Vista), and I also purchased an 8800GTS (G92) fairly recently (late March).  Before I bought my 8800GTS, I had a BFG 7950GT, and Enemy Territory worked perfectly with that.  When I put in the 8800GTS and updated the drivers and such, I could not load the game on regular Vista.  When I formatted my computer several days ago, I intended to reinstall all of the gamest that I had on my previous build after updating drivers and such.  However, when I installed ETQW, it worked fine, but my audio for the game did not work.  When I installed the drivers for my integrated audio, then all of the sound on my system would not work.  After trying to uninstall the audio drivers, I was still presented with the same problem.  So I did a system restore, installed the audio drivers without ETQW, and encountered the same problem (no audio at all).  I did another restore, installed ETQW, and then found another problem.  It would not load at all!  Everytime it went to the step past loading the UI, it shutdown and presented an error with the orange box, stating something about not being able to load some component called 'menus'.  Naturally, I uninstalled and reinstalled, and the game presented me with the same problem.  Is there any fix for the audio and my loading problem with Vista SP1?

    Did you patch to 1.4? http://community.enemyterritory.com/index.php?q=node/220

    Also see if you have done all your updates for Vista as well. there might be a audio driver from MS that could fix the issue.

    Originally, during the first installation, I patched to 1.5 or something through the game.  After the system restore and uninstalls, I did not try that (partially because I just couldn't execute the game).  I will try the 1.4 patch.

    Ok if that does not work with 1.4

    do the other stuff next that I listed as well the driver is not from Gigabyte its from the Realtek manufacture. There are issues with that sound card and Vista.

    The game still will not start up past the loading UI portion of the game initialization process.  Here is the error:

    The funny thing is that it isn't correctly detecting my RAM or Video memory as well...maybe that could have something to do with it?

    That could have a lot to do with it take out 2GB of RAM and try it. And do you have another video card you can test on the system?

    Yes, I still have my 7950GT, and I do remember that when I had Vista minus the service pack, it worked with that card but not the 8800GTS.  Not sure about the RAM, because on my previous non-SP1 build I installed ETQW perfectly with the 4GB of RAM on there.  I'll try switching the graphics cards later today.

    Ok see it will play with the old card if not it could be SP1, and are you able to play any other games with that 8800 card?

    Looks to me like corrupt game files.. Uninstall the game, reinstall it, patch it up and try again..  Did the patch fail or something?


    ERROR: Event 'onCVarChanged' could not find cvar 'g_aptWarning'

    That is the error that's causing the game to abort and the fact that it can't find a cvar indicates your game installation is corrupt (possible you're stuck half way between versions)

    Patch 1.5

    Added g_aptWarning for toggling APT warning on the HUD

     

    Clearly you've got some files trying to load stuff from 1.5 for some reason and it doesn't exist because the patch isn't installed properly..  I don't even want to try and guess at the fubar'd mess your game directory is currently in if you're getting this error..  Just wipe the game off the drive and do the installation again.
