Dual Link DVI to HDMI... Can you hear me now

I have a vision tek 3870 pcie16 card with 2 Dual Link DVI ports that come with HDMI adapters.  I was advised that this format can transmit sound to my 37" Samsung 550 series LCD television.  Was I misinformed on Dual Link DVI?  I really would like to hear my EVE Online thru my TV's built in speakers (EVE Online has some good in game music) and my Ventrilo chat thru my headset(Dont need everyone in the house hear all them bad jokes out loud).  I ask you gamers out there point me in the right direction PLZ?  If I cant run my sound thru Dual Link DVI ports then is there a way to make my PC transmit game sound thru the back port on the mother board slot and Ventrilo sound thru the front audio ports for the head set?  Thanks Fellow Gamers for any help you can provide.

The 3870 has a built in sound card.  You would want to disable either the motherboards built in sound or if you have a add on sound card it needs to be disabled.

I run a hdmi out adapter from my 3870 to my receiver and then to the tv, though if you don't have a receiver or don't want to run it through one if you go straight to the tv the sound will work.

It could be that the dual d**k is the issue.  My card has dual link but I only run out through one of the dvi connectors and use 1 hdmi adapter.  Unless you are running at a resolution above 1920x1080 (or 1200) you do not need to go dual link.  I would assume a 37" lcd tv is either 720p or 1080p so you would only need the 1 out.
