Sony NEC Optiarc Black DVD-ROM Drive Model DDU1615

I recently purchased this DVD drive and I am having alot of problems with it.  I am currently on my third one and they all do the same thing.  I install the dvd drive and the computer recognizes the drive.  The drive fully operates and will open/close but will not play any media inserted DVD or cd-rom.  I can't figure out if it is something I am doing wrong or just have bad luck and keep getting bad ones.  I am running vista but on Sony NEC website it says this drive is supported on vista.  I was going to contact their tech support, but on their website their is none, not even a phone number.  I have tried the drive as the master, slave, and stand alone.  In all positions it does the same thing, but my dvd burner works fine in all of the positions.  It doesn't seem to be my computer and I updated the drivers and it says they are up to date.  I don't know what else to do, except return and buy a different one.

The odds of gettign 3 bad ones is really a stretch. I've used a number of SONY NECs and havent had any problems. For whatever reason, your set-up isnt liking them, I would just avoid the headache and get another brand.

    Penewah!

Hello... Have you installed any programs recently?  Like photoshop, photostudio, kodak easyshare... etc.. Installation of these programs and others will make changes to your registry which in turn could affect your drive.  I recently had a similar problem and resolved it by making changes to the upper and lower filters in the registry.. By that I mean I renamed the drive upper and lower filters keys to upperfiltersold and lowerfiltersold.. You could accomplish the same thing by exporting the keys and then deleting the upper and lower filter keys..

Try this link... tells you how to make the edits to the drive filters in the registry: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us

Please respond it this is of any help.

    Bob
