    Fan Filters

Hey guys, I have the Antec 900 housing my current rig and from what I hear, it seems like the case gets dusty and I am thinking about getting fan filters. I wondering if I add fan filters will they block the LED lights on the Antec Tri-Cool fans? I actually like the lights on my fans so if the fan filters do block the lights are there any filters that do not. Thank You.

    Re: Fan Filters

The more air you pump, the more dust you're going to get... Fan filters decrease airflow from the get-go and will progressively decrease it even farther as the filter gets dusty (the fans will continue to draw the same power)..  Personally, I'd think you're just better off decreasing your overall airflow (less active fans) and skip the filters if you're worried about dust (and save a bit on electricity as well).  Certainly, most systems work fine with much less airflow than the Antec 900 cases produce, so if you don't need the airflow, then don't use the extra fans as all you're doing is dumping more dust on your components.

    Re: Fan Filters

From what Sidicas said, I started to reconsider getting the fan filters. Then when amabhy added his input, I totally don't want it anymore. I guess I'll just have to clean my computer case more often.

    Re: Fan Filters

Yeah, fan filters are great for keeping dust out of a computer but they are a double edged sword because they also reduce a case's cooling effectiveness.

I also have the Antec 900 and initially thought to add fan filters. Since I replaced the lighted fans with non-lighted fans, there were no LEDs to block.

But after thinking about it I decided to skip the fan filters. One thing I found that helped a bit was to get a CPU stand that raises the case a couple of inches off the floor. There was noticeably less dust in the case after I did that and since the stand had casters, moving the case around when I need to work on the computer is a lot easier.
