    Possible OC Problem.

Hey guys I'm having trouble here and I think it has to do with a previous overclock, which is why I'm posting it here. Recently I've been getting the "blue screen of death" and I'm not sure why I'm still getting it after turned off the overclock. My cpu is an E6850 (3.0GHz) @ stock of course and I overclocked it to 3.6GHz on a P5KC motherboard, which I thought would be fine. I'm also using a zalman 9700. As far as I was concerned at first I thought the oc was fine until I started getting the "screen".

If anyone knows what the problem is I'd appreciate any input as to whats going on. I also have reformatted hoping that might fix the problem. If I have somehow screwed up the cpu and I need to get a new one then I'm willing to do so but I need to find out what is going on in the first place. Thanks.

If by clearing cmos do you mean setting the defaults? I'm sorry part of my problem here is I'm new to ocing. No I haven't run any memory test I was told to run prime95 and when I did it just sat there for hours and it didn't give me any results stating weather or not the oc was stable. It's probably just me not knowing how to do these things.

    Re: Possible OC Problem.

Get your manual out and follow the instructions for clearing CMOS. Once you do this you should be at stock everything and see what happens. Sounds like it was running with an OC for a bit.

Prime doesn't tell you its good only when its bad. No errors for 12-24 hours the OC should be stable.

    Re: Possible OC Problem.

Well seeing as my original motherboard didn't come with one I didn't even think to look for one with this one. I'll clear the cmos as soon as I have time.

    Re: Possible OC Problem.

What type ram do you have?  Some ram needs 2.0v+ to run at stock.  Your motherboard will probably default it to 1.8v.  Check with the specs recommended by your ram manuf. or post the type here.  As always, when asking for help it is a good idea to list your entire system specs as there are many things that can go wrong and it isn't always what you think.

    Re: Possible OC Problem.

My ram needs 2.20volts and the setting was on auto. I just manually  set it to 2.2 just  to be sure. I'll  wait and see if I get that screen again. I did clear the cmos and it is still happening.

    Re: Possible OC Problem.

yea put it up to 2.2 and if that doesnt work, then loosen up your timings at 2.2 volts
