Connecting a Laptop to a HDTV

    Hello everyone,

Am trying to hookup my laptop to my HDTV, and I need to know what kind of cable to buy.

The HDTV has HDMI outs, but my laptop does not have DVI.

     What solutions might be available?

     Thanks,

    what laptop do you have?

Chances are unless you have a pretty nice one your only choices will be, vga to component (or vga to vga if your tv has a vga input), or s video.

Gateway MX6425. It has a ATI Radeon Xpress 200M Series video card.

Am going to try the VGA to VGA, but I dont know if that will work.  *I think* I tried that awhile back, and I couldn't get it to happen, but I will double check.  However, if I can get it to work, then what will I do for sound?

     Ty for your help!

VGA is going to be your best bet if the laptop has a vga out (most do). For the audio you would need to use a mini sterio to dual RCA cord although some tvs have a mini stereo input.

I had a clients media pc hooked up this way for a few month until he decided to purchase a better video card allowing us to use hdmi and it worked just fine.

most of the laptop has a VGA output, so i just wondering if there is a HDMI adapter which can convert VGA into HDMI, so i can hook up it to my HDTV, that would be cool.

They have them but any I have seen have cost $160+. It's not as simple as a cable or adapter because the analog signal needs to be converted to a digital signal.
