    Mixing Memory

What do I need to watch for when adding new memory? I added 2 sticks of this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146969

I had in it 2x256MB of some Compaq standard Hyundai BS ram.

They are all PC3200 DDR400. But do I need to match anything else? Should I remove the 512MB of the Hyundai ram and expect the 2 sticks of the newer OCZ to work better w/o it?

Let me know if you need any more info. I can get CPUZ info on it when I get home tonight. Thanks!

As long as you're adding matched pairs you should be fine.

If system does not boot, remove old ram and try again.

when you say "matched pairs" do you mean as in ddr, cas, spped, what? also is it possible to have say 2x2G and 2x1G as long as they are "matched"

    Re: Mixing Memory

matched pairs as in same model and all stats. (Though if ur willing to take a small risk same stats different models or maeks SHOULD work, but not always, electrically.)

under no other circumstance can you hope to reliably retain DUAL data rate functionality.

    Re: Mixing Memory

so should you generally stay away from mixing different memory sizes? even if they are the same stats otherwise?

    Re: Mixing Memory

    you can have 2x 512 @ 800 MHz, and 2x 1GB @ 800 MHz for 3GB, but 1 at 512 and 1 at 1GB and you lose dual channel and get 400MHz
