    HTPC Built on ASUS M2NPV-VM

    Hello Everyone

    I am building a HTPC around an ASUS M2NPV-VM , I have a Brisbane 5000+ on the way as well as OCZ2A8002GK kit i got for its timings**

    Asus M2NPV-VM - purchased on ebay for $70
    OCZ ATI CrossFire 2GB Kit - purchased from newegg
    AMD 5000+ Brisbane - purchased from newegg

      I have an SPDIF adapter from another asus mobo that i will use to get optical audio out, i plan to use the RGB outputs to my HDTV in 1080i. All the temporary case will have for now is the above components, a DVD burner, 2 WD hard drives one thats 120GB and one thats 350GB Later these will be replaced with either 750GB or 1TB WD or Seagate drives.

    The eventual case i am planning to use will be aCM Media RC-280-KKN1-GP

    I also need to get a TV tuner.

    ==============================================================

    Questions:

    POWER
    I plan to use an Antec True330 330 watt power supply or i could alternately use an Antec True 380 power supply thats SATA ready. Are either of these sufficient? My current desktop has a 480Watt Antec that i could pillage... but it has no sata support.

    RAM

    ** I have found on the OCZ forums that with this motherboard which only goes to 1.9v i cannot get DDR800 speeds from this RAM because to do so it will need 2.1v - will i see a huge performance loss running 6 - 6 - 6 - 15 vs the advertised 4-4-4-15? It will probably have to run @ 667 as well... I am dissapointed because this RAM was recommended by newegg's memory configurator for my motherboard?!

    OCZ Forum

    Here is the configurator choices, i chose the ATI because of its better timings... i didnt realize i had to boost the voltage to get them!

    Newegg Configurator

    I have found some mushkin memory that claims 4-4-4-12 @ 1.9v that should run DDR 800

    Mushkin Ram

    Should i RMA the OCZ memory and exchange for the Mushkin?

    ============================================================

    I also would love some input on HD and hybrid tuners... i have standard cable with no HD sources other than the PC and my Xbox 360.

     I may get HD sattelite service soon as my wife and I are moving to a new house. And of course in 2009 all analog transmissions will cease.. so digital tuner is a must... but i am not certain i want Vista MCE vs XP 2005 so i may need an analog tuner for XP....

    Thanks!

    Re: HTPC Built on ASUS M2NPV-VM

    If you havent' bought a PSU yet: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371007&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL051308&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL051308-_-PowerSupply-_-L0C-_-17371007 $55 shipped, an awesome deal! Promo code: EMCAFBDAD good till the 19th.

    I would swap the ram out. Ih their configurator suggested it, I'd call them and let them know, so you dont have to pay for any restocking fee or anything. Call ahead, maybe (cant speak for them) they'll be nice and send you a ship[ label.

    Re: HTPC Built on ASUS M2NPV-VM

    Thanks for the feedback, i called them this morning and explained, they are refunding RMA and sending prepaid shipping label, however they told me not to even test it out to see if it will work... so i guess i wont be building the system today!

    I dont think my HTPC will need 500Watts...  that would be overkill even @ 80+ >br>
    I am going to try the 380 for now and see how it goes...

    ** UPDATE **

    I posted my quandry on OCZ forums and got a response that they will work @ ddr800 so perhaps i can build my system after all!

    HAve assembled the system and it boots! installing MCE 2005 now to test ...

     Anyone here know where in bios to see memory speeds? on my current Asus P4PE i could go into dimm settings... new bios doesnt have anything that mentions memory?!
