Broken DVD drive recognizes DVD's as CD's

Broken DVD drive recognizes DVD's as CD's

I purchased a Sony DVD burner 8 months ago, and now it's broken. At first it recognized DVD's for what they were, but now the show up as CD's. I checked for new drivers and updates, but there were none. I also tried to reinstall the current drivers, but it didn't fix the problem. Is the problem in the Software or hardware? Please Help.

It would be hardware issue at this point now that is if its coming up in My computer like that. It would not be drivers it would be a firmware upgrade.

http://sony.storagesupport.com/ look here first and see if there is a firmware upgrade for it, if not then contact them for a RMA its under a year so there should not be a problem with that.
