    VGA/Svid to TV

    Hi,

I'm currently working on a client's laptop, and their LCD monitor just died. Since the laptop is probably 3 years old, they don't want the expense of having to buy a new LCD screen, or a new monitor. However, they wondered if they could hook up a newer flat screen TV to serve as a monitor. My question at this point is what is the best way to do this? The computer has both VGA and S-Video output, and as of yet I don't know what inputs the TV has. Newegg has so many video cables I thought I'd post here before searching for hours...

     Thanks

Well, you need to find out what video inputs the TV has and then go from there.  If the TV only has S-Video inputs, then your choice has already been made.

    And the winners are in

the tv has " DC-IN, D-SUB, S-Video which includes comp video (and L&R Audio)"

I guess my question now is which was to go- should I just go with the D-sub or S-video? Or S-video to component? I don't have much experience to know the difference between the difference in/output standards.

the VGA port is your best bet.  Using the Supervideo port the pic quality will suffer.  But what does the TV support?  That is the big question now.

since I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to get at, here's a link to the Tv's support page:

    Re: VGA/Svid to TV

The D-sub is your best bet.  It's another name for a VGA input.  S-Video can only support up to either 480i or 576i resolution depending on implementation.

Just getting at, what input ports does your TV have?  If it does not have one type or the other then your choice has already been made.
