    Overclocking a E2160

I just build a budget build for my brothers friend, and I have decided to overclock his processor (e2160).
Right now I have overclocked the e2160 from 1.8GHz to 2.4GHz and the temp stays around 35C idle and
40-45C load.  How long will the e2160 last at this speed and temperature.

If I overclock further to 3GHz how long do you think the processor will last?  My friends concern is making the computer last at
    least 3 years.

    Thanks.

    Re: Overclocking a E2160

i /believe/ it primarily depends on whether or not you up the voltage

its once you start pumping more power in there that the life expectancy starts dropping fastĀ

    Re: Overclocking a E2160

Lets say you are correct, the only way to decrease life would be to increase voltage.

If I increase the FSB from 800Mhz to 1333MHz will the life decrease?  That is how I plan to hit the 3Ghz mark.

    Re: Overclocking a E2160

i don't know if it would decrease the lifespan or not if you managed to, but you are definitely not getting the FSB from 800 to 1333 and keeping that system stable without some (possibly major) bumps in voltage

Iv actually put it to 3Ghz without changing the voltage already, I am just afraid of leaving it at that speed.  The E2xxx series of processors love to overclock.

Just as smartalco says, it depends on the voltage. you can easily overclock E2160 to 3GHZ without problem and the temperature is stable! I am not very sure about how long it can last in this situation! Whereas, I found a linkage which may be useful for you!
