I'm not 100% sure, but I would assume. I know that canon made most of their lenses interchangable with all models.  I don't want to tell you absolutes that they all are because i'm really not sure, but I would most certainly think so.  Worst comes to worst you return it,.

Canon cameras have standard interface between the body and lens, so i guess they can work together.

    Re: Canon EF-S 17-85MM f4-5.6 with 30D

Yes they will work together. the 30D works with any EF or EF-S series lens.

Just curious, why that particular lens?

I'd suggest: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16830998376 It gives you 1/4 more of an f-stop on the wide-end. It also saves you $100. The tradeoff? minimum focal distance 1.6ft (EF) vs 1.15ft (EF-S)...that's not even 6 inches.

thank you very much for your suggestion..

the 28-138mm lens really nice..I have ordered the 17-85mm lens.. However I will consider this as well... maybe 1-2 months latter when I have more money, i will place a new order...

    Re: Canon EF-S 17-85MM f4-5.6 with 30D

If you've already ordered the 17-85mm, I wouldn't get the 28-135. It's a lot of overlap and the lens does the same thing.

For your second lens check out the

75-300mm EF zoom lens <- I have this one, it's a nice telephoto zoom. It comes in with and without IS models

or a prime telephoto lens w/f1.4...those are gorgeous for sports photography. (hint: the white colored, really expensive ones, lol)

Enjoy the camera! I have the 20D myself and I absolutely love it.

    Re: Canon EF-S 17-85MM f4-5.6 with 30D

If you want more lens, i would suggest you to get a prime lens instead of another zoom lens, cuz primes have some advantages that zoom may not lack.

    1. giving a slightly better image quality.
    2. smaller, lighter and cheaper than a zoom lens of the same quality.
    3. lens may also be "faster".
    4. have a larger maximum aperture (smaller f-number), so it can be used with less light (with the same shutter speed)
    5. can provide less depth of field in situations where this is desirable.

Neverforever, just so you know #3 and #4 are the same thing. That's what "faster" means. #5 is then an extension of that logic, because an opened up lens provides smaller depth of field, however that is not a feature of prime lenses only. It is any lens.

I do agree in principle though. I f.2 or so lens would be very beneficial to anyone who is looking to add a 2nd lens.

Thanks for the correction. Yep, #4&#5 is the same thing in some way. However, you have to admit that Primes have LESS depth of field due to the fact that they have smaller f-number. I see that depth of field is a feature of any lens, but my point was that primes have less of that than zoom lenses.

Okay, I see what you're saying. Primes usually do have a smaller f/# than their zoom counterparts...unless you want to pony up for the L-series. Yes
