Canon powershot 540. It takes amazing quailty photos for the price and also takes very good movies. I paid I think about $180.00 and it came with a 1gb card. It uses AA batteries, which can be bought anywhere in case of emergency. The camera also feels good in your hand, not to small or big.Yes

Re: What kind of camera are you using?

350D here - a bit of an initial investment, but the lenses you buy will last a long time & are typically compatible with new bodies....add in the flexibility that slr photography provides & you can't go wrong!

Another vote for the Canon A540.

It's very inexpensive, has fully auto to fully manual, takes great clear photos and movies, is very compact, and is easy to use.

My only complaints are the flash recycle time and that the quality on the ISO-800 setting is not as good as the other settings.  It's in good company on that.

    1. What You See Is What You Get, especially focus & depth of field

    2. Better depth control

    3. Better performance on high ISO

    4. Could change length, hundreds of choices

    5. Better feeling of control

    6. Cool shutter sound "Ka Ka" - kidding

    Yes

    Rebel XT with a 18-55mm lens and a 70-300 telephoto/macro

I love it. If you're big on photography, DSLR is the way to go, hands down.

Re: What kind of camera are you using?

Nikon 950 indoors (not great resolution these days but color, sharpness and flash control are great and the swivel body allows great shooting angles)

Nikon CP5000 outdoors - it takes amazing sharp pictures, great exposure and color outdoors. I hate using it indoors because it never does a good job with flash.

I have tried the Canon Rebel but it simply feels to light and small ... I was going to upgrade but I don't feel comfortable with it. Still looking.

In about 15hrs and 23mins I'll be using a Canon S3-IS Big Smile. Before that I had a Canon A610 and before that an Olympus D545Z.

Re: What kind of camera are you using?

350d with a couple different lenses. Camera does a great job, I love it. My only complaint is the cost of the L lenses, but yeah....

I also carry a Sony DSC-T9 in a cellphone pouch almost 24/7. The quality is decent for a camera this size it uses a rechargeable battery, and I never miss a picture opp.
