Just need a basic idea of what i'm looking for...

I'm not by any means "new" to the computer building scene. I've built every computer I've ever had, and that's been a lot.  Just this week, I purchased all new parts and built myself a nice new box.  3 GB Ram.  Vista Home Prem.  2.4 GhZ AMD.   My thing is...I don't ''need'' video for video games, etc.  I just want to get the most out of Vista....and my MSI K9AG Neo-2 Digital board (I always buy MSI...I love their stuff) had DVI and VGA on it.  I have run Dual display for as long as I've known it existed...several years now... Even ordered a DVI to VGA Adapter to run the dual heads....  Here's my problem - and it's nobody's fault but my own....for not realizing.   The adapter I bought is DVI-I to VGA.   The board has DVI-D...and again, that's my fault....a rookie mistake from an experienced builder.   No Big deal...I threw a PCI video card I already had...into the box and it's running my dual monitor fine.   It won't do AERO...because it says the video card sucks too bad..and I believe that.... What I want....is a suggestion.   Bottom End...Nothing Extraordinarily fancy video card.  With the ability to run dual heads....and windows' aero features.  PCI Express X 16 probably the best way to go.  Knowing I have DVI-I to VGA...that would probably help if the card had it....or came with the appropriate adapter.

     With some restrictions

    1) I have two VERY nice 19''  CRT Monitors...and i"m not interested in upgrading to LCD....I believe (and maybe it's just me) that CRT's have better images than some of the new ones....

    2) I'm not out to spend a 'bunch" of money....that's why I said "Low end'.  I don't play games.... All I want is the ability to run "aero" -

Your suggestions will be most appreciated.

    See...

    I looked at that....but

    1) I've never really seen anything with that brand name..
    2) I wish there was SOMETHING specifically that ''said'' it WOULD do dual display...because from what I gather...they don't "all" do it...

    Any tips?

Sapphire makes graphics cards, and thats about all they do, they seem to be pretty good, my friends has an X1950XT of theirs, hasn't had any problems with it

edit: i was looking for a card with 2 VGA outs, but apparently they don't /really/ exist, this is the best i found, but its 75 dollars, out of stock, and has no reviews :/

Re: Just need a basic idea of what i'm looking for

Most low end cards come with a VGA output and a DVI output. They usually pack a DVI to VGA converter in there just in case. They're so cheap that it only makes sense for people like me who havn't yet switched to a DVI monitor.

I'd say that that HD 3450 would be fine with two monitors. It's been supported by both ATI and nVidia for a while now and the HD 3xxx series is ATI's newest line up. It's real easy to setup a dual monitor setup in Catalyst Control Center anyways so you should be fine with an HD 3450.
