    Re: Metal

Metal is without a doubt, the best genre of music out there.

I can't really define a favorite sub-genre, though listen to a lot of Power, Progressive, and Thrash.  Though really, most sub-genres will do. :)

    Here are some of the bands I listen to in no particular order;

    Angra (Neoclassical, Progressive, Power)

    Deströyer 666 (Blackened Thrash, Death)

System of a Down (Alternate with elements of rock)

    Anarion (Speed)

    Dragonforce (Power)

    Lycanthia (Heavy, Gothic)

    Linkin Park (Nu)

And a number of other bands...

    Re: Metal

See my avatar for some awesome Progressive Metal / Melodic Death Metal (Into Eternity). But really, I like so much music in the metal category I couldn't possibly list all my favorites. You could check out my last.fm page if interested: http://www.last.fm/user/NathanM/

    Re: Metal

Metal definitely rules. It should be illegal in some states to play anything else. My personal Faves are Judas Priest/Rob Halford, (I'm an old fart) Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Sabbath, and of course Type O Negative, Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Opeth (YEAH!!!!) Lacuna Coil, Dark Tranquility and pretty much alot of Century Media bands Power Metal and Hardcore included... the list could go on forever... It would be interesting to take a poll of all the hardcore computer freaks and gamers out there to see which genre they listen to most. Why choose to hear about how your wife ran away with your dog or your best friend, or the other stuff about gang banging or your beeyotches...

    Re: Metal

Metal is the bomb.  I listen to lots of stuff, but Metallica and Guns N Roses heads the list of my favorite metal bands.  I like to throw in lots of classic rock also.  It all sounds great on my Logitech Z-2300s.

    Re: Metal

Umm, I would attempt to list all the bands I listen to, but that's all it would ever be . . . an attempt.  Instead here's some of the genres/sub-genres I like:

    Metal:

    • occult
    • doom
    • black
    • death
    • grind
    • folk and/or viking
    • pagan
    • melodic
    • symphonic
    • satanic
    • power
    • speed
    • industrial
    • not NU-metal, hardcore, or trying to rap (like slipknot,  korn, linkin park, etc.)
    • probably a few other things I skipped over

    Electronica

    • techno
    • trance
    • rave
    • happy hard-core
    • darkwave
    • ebm
    • industrial
    • doom
    • noise
    • ambient/atmospheric
    • again, probably a few I skipped over

Oh, and I must say that Behemoth is probably my most favorite of all, seen 'em twice this past year and got to chat with 'em too Stick out tongue  (as well as cannibal corpse and gwar).  Yamatu would be up there is well if they'd finally get a an album out with acceptable production quality, instead of just the random demo/compilation of old recordings/mixes that have been out forever now.  Devil Doll (the one from Italy) is pretty interesting as well.

    Re: Metal

There are subgenres of metal I hate, and some subgenres of metal I love.

in the end thrash metal is the best.

but to really understand the metal I lik here are a few of the best metal bands out there:

    -Metallica

    -Testament

    -Overkill

    -Megadeth

    -Flotsam and Jetsam

    -Judas Priest

    -Motorhead

    -Dio

    -Black Sabbath

    -Ozzy

    -Biohazard

    -Iron Maiden

Basically 80s and early 90s metal. Those were the golden metal years.

Now it's a lot of horrible singing with tiring  and repeatitive drumming.

<<<<Falconer, Dragonforce, Rhapsody, ManOWar, Iron Maiden, Heavenly (my all-time favorite), Judas Priest, Turisas, Symphony X and Nightwish are probably my favorites. >>>>

Nice selection there...  I would definitely recommend Green Carnation if you like that.  They are an amazing Prog Metal band out of Norway.  Heavenly is simply amazing.  I want to see them live real bad, just don't see them playing the states anytime soon.  Have seen Rhapsoday, Manowar, Maiden...  More times than I can remember.

Would also add up Anthrax, Agalloch, Within Temptation, Ayreon, Savatage, Machine Men, Therion, W.A.S.P., and pretty much any Metal band with great vocals and are dynamic in their music.
