AMD Phenom 9600 Vs. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

I am not sure if you have seen some article like this, personally, I think it is a good one so put it here: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,2226950,00.asp

Re: AMD Phenom 9600 Vs. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

Why did they use DDR3 with the Q6600 setup and DDR2 with the Phenom 9600 setup? O.o

Hahah, so tru. But you can't rely on numbers and benchmark tests, them people don't know how to test out a machine manually. Like i play games and doing a lot of encoding and video editing which people say phenom is a lot quicker than the Q6600. But i could care less if intel's chip is 5% faster, I've always stuck with AMD, I'm not changing now after 10 years.

ddr3 has a higher bandwidth than ddr2. good question as to why they used that instead...hmmm

Not sure which people are saying the Phenom is faster than the Q6600 but, they would be far from correct.

The TechReport also did a review yesturday with the TLB patch that is susposed to correct the erratum that has been talked about with the Phenom's.

    It absolutely kills Phenom performance.

This is more than enough to make the differences in the Q6600 and the Phenom's noticeable, regardless of if you are just looking at benchmarks or the screen experience.

AMD's great hope of producing a true "native" quad core has failed drastically. Phenom gets clobbered with an Intel processor that has already been out for almost a year.

You took what i said out of context, i said in the encoding, video editing department, the phenom is faster. Also said i could care less if the Q is all around faster, i wont change from AMD. I also said those numbers in benchmark tests mean nothing, you have to test it out for yourself between what you do daily on a computer. Guarenteed theres only a 5% difference which you cant notice with the same hardware in the machine.

AMD chips cannot utilize DDR3, I believe I am correct in stating that.  The latest AM2+ boards for Phenom are all 1066/800/677 DDR2 capable.  But, no DDR3.  Please correct if I'm wrong.

Re: AMD Phenom 9600 Vs. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

You are right, but they should have make Intel and Phenom both run with DDR2 ram to make it a fairer comparison.  Obviously no intel and AMD mobos got the same setup, so the performance will be varies anyway.
