Radeon 3800 series reviews/benchmarks are in.

Just in case you missed it.  Most of the major and most respected hardware reviewers have completed their official reviews of the new Radeon HD 3800 series cards.  Get a list at this link http://www.dailytech.com/11152007+Daily+Hardware+Reviews++ATI+Radeon+HD+38703850+Edition/article9668.htm

All the big ones are in there including AnandTech.  While the reviews are not as bright as I had hoped.  The cards still don't suck by any means.  It looks like ATI/AMD are finally starting to inch their way back into the game.

It would have been easy to miss amongst the rabid reviews of the 8800GT. And here's the Tom's review as well. Looks good. They will probably do really good business purely because of the lack of availability of the GT, which is what it really competes with. NVidia still pwns the high-end market, it seems. That new GTS is going to "Hulk Smash" the HD.

I might have read over it but what kind of performance will this card give you when set up with a second card in Crossfire mode for lack of a better way to put it....I was thinking about using a pair with the Asus P5E LGA Intel X38 board and an Intel Core 2 Quad 6700 that was given to me.

At least there is some competetion going on between ATI and Nvidia.  Consumers are benefit from this.

In crossfire mode these things work pretty well.  Check it out.

Re: Radeon 3800 series reviews/benchmarks are in.

whats funny is that i was hoping to buy the radeon hd 3870 and i couldnt find it in stock and then i ended up getting the gt that i could find for a price basically 10 dollars higher than a 3870...even though i also wanted to purchase an amd spider setup...

unfortunately i think i will not be crossfiring the 3870s when i do eventually get one...now all i will do is buy one when ever they are available and i will be getting my msi k9a2 platinum and a phenom fx when it comes out...

Re: Radeon 3800 series reviews/benchmarks are in.

I will say that the Nvidia 8800 GT does better in some games either more frame rates, higher resolution, or details but at a price. If they lower this price comparable to the ATI 3870 then I'd have a tough choice, but will probably be Nvidia. If you look at price vs performance the ATI is ahead, granted not a huge margin, but still it's affordable. I should remind you that with the ATI 3800 series that also includes the HL2 Black Box, so thats enough for me to get this video card. The drivers for the 3800 still need time to mature so the difference you see now in performance between the two cards shouldn't be your deciding factor.

my deciding factor wasnt the price like i said i got the bfg for 236.... the radeon hd 3870 on the egg was selling for 220 so imho i would say that i got a steal...and to make it clear i wanted the 3870 i just couldnt find any in stock
