Whats better downloading music or buying the cd?

Really I think that buying the cd is alot better because you have the cd in your hand risk free.

When you say download you mean buying the song right? Well, it has the advantage you can choose a few songs you really like and make your own CD. The cost is about the same of buying a CD, but you are in control of what you get, I've been using Rhapsody for this during years, it is pretty save. Every song cost about 0.99, sometimes less. They offer a few save options to enjoy music inexpensive and legally with support for Linux. Which Ipod doesn't.

Very few download site have the songs at a high enough bit-rate that it does not assult my ears.  Amazon.com has a great high bit-rate and their songs sound full and clear.  But I prefer to buy the whole CD and then burn my own WMA files for my music player.  ^_^

Re: Whats better downloading music or buying the c

If it's something I really like, I must have the tangible cd/album.  Artwork, liner notes, non-compressed audio.  I've considered renaming my coat closet as it is stacked full of discs and vinyl, no room for anything else.

I prefer d/load.  Certain bands I will buy the cd just for the sake of a full collection but there aren't many of those.  I still prefer not to use the original disk anyway these days.  I don't care if I scratch up a copy of the album.

Re: Whats better downloading music or buying the c

If you want better sound quality you will want the cd, then you can rip it at whatever setting you want.  Though it costs a bit more, but luckily for me I am getting old and no longer buy the new music out there so I save lots of money by not buying either way.

Of course I have heard many arguments that a record is the best quality sound that you can buy.  But they don't play so well in a car or on the go.

W/ the right sw one can easily improve the sound quality of a song.  The sw isn't cheap by any means but it can be done and doesn't take long at all.

If the song is at a low bit rate all the filters and masks in the software world will not make it sound as good as uncompressed, if you have ears for music.  Many people can not here the difference between 96 kbs and 192 kbs MP3s.  If you are that person more power to you.  For mei it is easy to tell if a song is compressed or not.  And I prefer not.  Cool

Wow.  Feeling of inferiority never felt so good.  I probably can't hear it.  Long as it sounds good to me I'm perfectly happy.

I was just pointing out people hear music differently.  Differences do not make one person better than another.  I am sorries if my post made any one feel badly.

Re: Whats better downloading music or buying the c

Didn't make me feel bad.  I get music and listen to it. If it sounds good, I keep it. If not, I delete it.  I don't pay much attention to the bit rates.  Maybe if I paid attention to these things I'd find myself deleting the lower quality.  I don't know.

People do hear music differently.  I know people who can listen to an orchestra and hear each and every individual instrument.  I can't.  It doesn't bother me in the least.

I have actually made my music files better in sound quality through sw.  I didn't specifically change the bit rate and the biggest problem I ran into was the conversion back to MP3.  It would degrade the quality from what I had it to slightly (maybe more for those who have more sensitive ears than my own).  I could hear that.

Sorry Mei if I took your post in a way that I shouldn't have.  I wasn't upset or angry.  I don't have to fuss about music because I can't hear the all of the mistakes or problems.  I just accept it or don't.

Maybe with a laser turntable....then, maybe.  I know I would take a 1/4" 2-track open reel over an LP, but I haven't heard a laser deck yet.

And SACDs are supposed to be the best of the above, but no listening experience here.

To stay somewhat on topic, if your ears are of the picky persuasion, rip to lossless FLAC instead of lossy mp3!!!!

I bought my first new CD in years yesterday. I feel good about myself for contributing to the musical economic welfare fund. The Eagles must have really needed the cash to put this thing out with their partner Wallyworld. No Hotel Californias on this release.Embarrassed

    Good for you Yes

I was doing some organizing this weekend and my CD collection is about 400. Of those maybe only 5 regrets, but most are still favorites. On the other hand, they take a lot of space, that is why I prefer to buy just the songs I like., in the past (like 10 years ago) I used to buy just the single of the song (I have like 20 of those) , but most of my collection are the whole album and the quality is really great.
