    Sub $900 gaming computer

    Parts:

    $220 E6600 (4/22)
$40 SATA DVD burner SONY 18X DVD±R DVD Burner, OEM Version Black SATA
    $47 XClio 450BL ATX 450W Power Supply
    $140 Two 1Gb Sticks G-Skill 800Mhz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231098
    $120 EVGA GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16
    $130 ASUS P5B  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131030

    Total: $697

Looking for a cheap case (< $50) that can suit my needs and will probably swap the Xclio with the Corsair 520W.

Thoughts? (I'm holding off on a 8800 until Vista fixes it's faults and some DX10 games besides Crysis comes out.)

    Re: Sub $900 gaming computer

I just built a system for a friend and used this Rosewill case. It is a nice case for the money and it comes with 2-120mm fans that really helps in cooling the case. The only other thing that I did to help keep it cool was to purchase a 80mm and install it in the top of the case for extra cooling. You probably won't need it but he had me OC the system for him so it was a way to help with getting rid of the extra heat that the system is going to produce.

    Re: Sub $900 gaming computer

For a case, I'd recommend any of the Rosewill R6A series cases, they're reasonably nice and pretty cheap. I would get a better power supply, the Enhance 5150GH maybe, since XClio isn't exactly the best of brands. (They use the same OEM as the Antecs that have been having problems with blown capacitors.)

@ your $900 limit you have $215.63 Left to Spend on Video Cards

This was the invoice from my last newegg purchase.

I am taking the DVD Writer, and SATA HDDs from my old system.
I however will be running 8800's, and thus break the $900 mark plus adding 2 more GB of Ram.

But I built one pretty much in your price range and I just fired it up and IT'S DAMN FAST.

***Here you wonder HOW? if I have no video cards?  I work in a PC Shop, I just pulled a few things out of inventory to test with.***

Put it all in a picture, seemingly stupid question, should I order the parts all at once and wait for the E6600 price drop? Or wait to buy it all at once?

Mostly want comments on subsitutions, thanks!

It will be $905 after Price drop, and $875 after Mail in Rebates. Close call guys, now I just have to hope that everything stays in stock long enough for me to buy them, that was my main concern.

sorry but that video card is garbage.  Spend another 30 bucks and go with a 7900.

    Re: Sub $900 gaming computer

Yes, a 7600 is a bit weak for system that will primarily be used to game, unless you are on a phenominally tight budget.

You may very well be better off getting a 320MB 8800GTS and a slower CPU.

    7900GS looks like $140 at cheapest, I can get a 7600GT for $90. Insight?

    Re: Sub $900 gaming computer

a 7600 should do you just fine for about 3 years then it will probably be out of date. a 7900 is having problems on windows vista.

for a case (I don't want to start sounding like there represenitive but) I bought a few that were only $50-$80 on ebay, and they were good cases, and came with (really cheep) 450 watt power supplies.

also you might want to be carefull on the size of the case you buy, some video cards are fairly large, i had a 7900 agp card and went to put it in a mid size tower. and i had to squeeze it in. it just barely fit, the plug in the back of it was touching my hard drive.

A 7600GT will struggle with some recent games, it certainly won't last 3 years as a viable gaming card.

Well NE has a deal on the CM cent 5 (blue) so I'm going to get that, it might not fit a 8800GTX, but oh well.

    Re: Sub $900 gaming computer

Go for a 7900GS/GT or an 1950XT. The 7600GT is a little weak.  A 7900 will hold you for another year or two.

I also wouldn't order the Xclio PSU, Corsair makes some of the best PSU's on the market.  I would look towards the 620 watt PSU, 520 watts might have a little trouble for an 8800.

    here ya go...

Take a look at this card, I just used it in my build. I was also waiting for more DX10 cards and games to come out, I bough tthis card to hold me over for the next 1 - 2 years. So far it handles every single game I thro at it at full settings... games like COD2, FEAR, DOOM3, Supream Commander, and much more... Ive been downloading every new demo I can find and just cranking up the graphic settings, and so far have havent found a game it cant run.

For $135 after the rebate, I think its well worth it...

The sapphire 1950 is a good card and will fit into your budget. More money in power supply purchase ( and research as your doing) will stand you better than anything else you purchase.

I can assure you 100% that not only can a well-built 520W power supply handle an 8800, but a well-built 430W power supply would be able to handle an 8800 without issue.

I'd bet that 90% of all available PSU wattage in the world goes unused.

For right now it is anyways.  If he wants to go SLi, I wouldn't even try it with a 520 watt Corsair, let alone a 430 watter.

    Re: Sub $900 gaming computer

Considering that the P5B motherboard is not an SLI motherboard (nor will it ever be), I do not see SLI in the cards for this current build.

And, 520W is perfectly fine for SLI of two 8800GTS 320mb cards.

Bah, the Egg wasn't working when I posted that.  I got it confused with the P5-N.

I was just commenting that it might not fit normally when I'm going to upgrade. Not that I plan on purchasing one now. I'm looking to go with a 7900GS, but the foxconn just sold out. I really need to buy things when they come up. Two things I wanted got sold out today.

eVGA makes a wonderful 7900GS that works flawlessly.

Well it was overclocked, but it was sold out anyway, back to the 7900GS from evga.
