    upgrading my dell

    i have a dell inspiron 531s desktop with an amd 64x athlon processor, currently 1gb ddr2 ram, 256 ati radeon x 1300 pro vcard, and windows vista home premium. i want to upgrade the ram first. it has 4 slots at 1gb capacity per slot. what would be a compatable and cost efficient choice?

    crack open your case and find out what ram you have exactly, and you get another stick of that. record the brand and the timing.

    you may use CPU-Z to find the right RAM type

    how do i check the timing? i know a bit about computers but not a whole lot. would that be the mhz number on the chip?

    If you don't want to buy memory from Dell, decide what brand you want and check with that company. Most companies have a memory configurator or database to help you.
