FSB to MEM Ratio. What does it all mean!?!?! OC

Alright, Tonight I decided to overclock my E6600 on my Gigabyte GA-965G-DS3 rev 1.0 F9. I have a pair of Ballistix Crucial Memory 2GB (1GBx2) PC8500.

After spending 6 Hrs reading lots of forms, guides, crashing my computer, testing for stability and getting my computer to where I like it; there is one thing that I just don't understand quite yet. The FSB to Memory ratio.  I hear that 1:1 is good 1:2 is plenty for DDR2 ect. I have no Idea how to do the math on this stuff so I will ask a opinion here to see if I can get more out of my setup than I already have.

Currently I have the ram running at 800MHZ 2.1v

The FSB is running at 300

The CPU is running sweet at 2.7GHZ at 42C~45C Idle and 62C~70C full load on the stock cooler. Multiplier is at x9

With timings on the RAM; it is currently at 4-4-4-12. If i go higher than 900MHZ my timings have to be at 5-5-5-15 in order for the system to boot. I cannot go over 1000MHZ with out the memtest86 giving me a million ram errors.

So my question is, is there anything that I should change? I'm afraid to go higher on my FSB because of the temps. But is 70C a good temp? Or to Hot? Please let me know. It would be appreciated. Big Smile

EDIT: Oh and what would be the 1:1 and 1:2 Ratios for the FSB/RAM. Thanks :)

    You're fine

    A quick example of a 1:1 ratio... cpu=266FSB ram=533Mhz  -or- cpu= 400FSB ram=800Mhz

This is called a 1:1 ratio because ram is DDR (Double data refresh rate) DDR=Double Data Rate = Double the FSB value.

in a 1:2 ratio you will be overclocking the ram more than the CPU

an example would be to have the cpu set at 266FSB and the ram set to 1067Mhz.

    Hope this helps :)
