Idea [I] Collection of common questions and answers about the forum

To save future questions, I figured I'd go over some of the ones we've already covered about the usability of the forums (and various other things).  I'll update the initial post with more as I have them (or as more questions are asked).  I originally had this as 1 big post, but realized it was way too difficult to follow, so I've separated it up into a separate post for each update.  If you think something should be included, PM me with it and I'll decide if it's helpful (hey, it's my thread..my choice Stick out tongue).  I'll make sure I give you credit if I post it.

Most importantly, the HELP link (http://www.eggxpert.com/languages/en-US/docs/faq.aspx) is infinitely helpful in many aspects.  You should check there first if you have a question.

How to tell if someone's online:

The little 2 people thing denotes whether someone is online or not (if it's not there, they aren't online)

    Setting tags on a post:

Press the Select Tags button at the bottom of the page and you get the following box.  This is probably the most underused feature thus far, but can be the best thing for someone looking for a specific area of information.  Use it!  Note that you can use the text box where it says tags to enter your own tags for a post as well.  If the tags in the box don't fit what you think your post applies to, simply put in your own tag.

Very nicely done. My hat is off to you sir.

I petition this thread to become sticky. New users will find this very helpful.

Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Bump to keep it on the first page..shameless, I know, but it's worthless if people can't find it (even if I did use tags). Smile

    Avatars

Remote avatars are currently disabled, but you can still use a local one.  If the avatar you want to use is located somewhere else, just right click on the image, save as, and save it locally.  Then, click the Browse button as shown below and upload it that way.

Re: Collection of questions about the forum

What # user am I (how do I know what # user I was registered on these forums)?

If you mouse over your post count below your avatar, in the lower left hand corner of your browser, the subsequent link will show up.  In that link is an identifier (u=#).  That # is what number you are in regards to when you registered versus other people.  In this example, I am user number 3681.

In addition, if you just mouse over your name when seeing the list of threads, it becomes a little easier to see.

    Sweet, I am 6682. Cool

This thread must be made sticky.

Re: Collection of questions about the forum

Agreed, it is definitely useful for those who have had very little experience using a forum.

    Quick Reply (submitted by mishkajb)

In the lower right hand corner of every post, there is a Quick Reply link.

Clicking it will bring you to this window:

It's a slightly faster way to post, if you so wish.
