I hadn't recently installed any new programs or drivers. It began with just the screen freezing for a second and then returning to normal with the error message "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." I was running an EVGA NVIDIA 8800GTS 640MB card at the time. Nothing on the computer is overclocked nor has it been. Then the next day the error started to happen more frequently so I upgraded the drivers to the most recent release 191.07 WHQL. After this I started to see a lot of screen artifacts and began to run some diagnostic tools like FurMark, each time I tried to run this it would eventually freeze up the OS, resulting in either a BSOD with nvlddmkm.sys (0x00000116) to blame or just freeze up the screen and never come back until a system reboot. All of the temperatures were always within operating ranges. I tried cleaning out the drivers and installing various releases, as well as pretty much every posted solution I could find, but nothing helped. Attached are some of the pictures of the artifacts I was seeing. I decided to contact EVGA who told me to RMA the card as it was under warranty. Since there were graphic problems in the BIOS they thought it had to be the card malfunctioning and not the drivers, etc.

I thought all would be well and good from here, So i popped in the only spare graphics card I have which is a BFG NVIDIA 6200OC PCI. Unfortunately the problem continued to some degree. I no longer have the graphic artifacts, but I am still getting the "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." error whenever I try to do anything even minimally graphics intensive, for example looking though the pictures I posted at a fast pace, or even run the Windows Vista performance rating diagnostic. I decided to go ahead and do a fresh install of Vista, and even with that I am still getting the error message. Note that the OS was current with all updates in both cases.

I was hoping it was simply a defective graphics card, but even with a new card and a clean install of the OS, I am still getting the error message. All of the images are from when the 8800GTS was installed. I have done all the basic stuff like checking the HDD, RAM, virus scan, etc. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what could be causing this problem? Please let me know if any other information might be helpful.

I've built my last 6 computers, but I'm puzzled here. I get a POST beep, but my monitor (Viewsonic VX2260wm) tells me there's no video and stays in standby, unless I turn the power off/on. I've got I got this result from the HIS video card, as well as the onboard video chipset. I've tried the DVI cable (what I normally use), and when that didn't work, I switched to the VGA and got the same results.

Can't get to the BIOS setup or the OS install like this. I bought my daughter a Viewsonic E70fb and had a similar problem when building her PC. I'd boot and would get "no Video signal". It turned out that it was some querky feature of the monitor, but it's been years since and I can't remember what it was. I looked through my monitor's manual and can't find anything in it about a similar querky feature as the E70f.

#2 If I can't buy all of my parts upfront, how do I check for DOA parts?

#3 Isn't there something like a 30-day timelimit to return a product through RMA?

Aside from those 3, I'd like to ask for everyone's input on how they would (generally) deal with a DOA product.

My old network card (of similar quality and from the now-finished company AirNet) would stay steady at 54.0 Mbps and although the signal strength would be pretty low, it seemed to perform better than this new one. This new one will stay at 11.0 Mbps (sometimes up to 24.0 Mbps), and doing things like watching HD YouTube videos is almost out of the question. My question is: is there a way to bump up the speed? The company states that on an 802.11g network it should be able to reach 54.0 Mbps.

Linux & M4A785TD-M EVO -- Finds no drives

Hi,

I just recently purchased a bulk amount of the M4A785TD-M EVO's. I had 3x1gb of Corsair DDR3-1333. No problems with my i7 setup but I knew, using Vista x64, I needed more. I would try burning a DVD or encode something and my computer would use allll of it and freeze up.

So I take out that RAM and put in 3x2gb of DDR3-1333. I could definitely notice the difference and I was thinking 6gb is probably perfect. BUT. Just now, all I was doing was installing Dragon Age:Origins. Utorrent, Avira antivirus, small app launcher the only things running in the background. Sounds easy to handle... the i7 was running at 1% to 3% load. The ram was at full capacity! Everything slowed to a halt.

This isnt the first time this has happened. Is there a setting I missed?
Two days ago, I made a mistake and and downloaded/installed wrong BIOS update. I'm embarassed. I have a Gigabyte motherboard and the dialog box for the BIOS update specifically said to BE SURE it was the right bios update, or else the system may not boot.

- 'Updated' my BIOS (wrong one obviously, I thought it WAS the right one. Must not have been due to recurring symptoms)
- Computer/BIOS will not even boot or load.

In detail-
- I shut my PC off. Unplugged it.
- Took CMOS batter out for a few hours and replaced.
- Plugged PC in, and it doesn't do much.

- PSU works. Fans start up. CD-Rom light is on. There IS power in my system. But my screen remains BLACK, it doesn't even notice a VGA or DVI signal. No beep codes. No nothing.

Could you please assist me?

Thank you
Dustin

AMD 785G build. I've been able to install Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade (it took a few installs to get it work), but I must run the system in Native IDE mode. After
many attempts, I gave up trying to install Windows XP and figured out
how to install the Upgrade without the XP installed.

Neither
AHCI or RAID modes will work, even after installing the drivers and
updating the BIOS (I tried everything I could think of). When the AHCI or RAID option is selected in the BIOS, the SATA hard drive will not be recognized (Error message reads: Invalid system disk Replace the disk, then press any key), and the system will not boot.

The computer
will operate sporadically in Native IDE mode, but if there is an IDE hard drive plugged in, it seems to work without issue. I'm unsure
if this is a driver or hardware issue, as I've not found much
information on the problem.

The system passes 10 hours (15+
passes) of MEMTEST without errors, and the SATA hard drive works fine
on another computer, so the other hardware is functional.

Gigabyte tech support was terse - they merely said to return the unit. I can do so, but I'd prefer to fix this if possible (I'd much prefer to avoid unsocketing the pin-based AMD processor). I do need the features of AHCI, so I cannot continue to operate in Native IDE over the long-term. Any suggestions for remedying this issue are appreciated.

Comp crashes at "Starting Windows", is it my mobo?

Specs:

OS: windows 7 Profesional

Mobo: EVGA X58 3x SLI

CPU: INTEL i7-920 2.66GHz

Case: Xclio Windtunnel

RAM: G skill 6GB 1600MHz DDR3

GPU: ATi Radeon 4350 (will be updated later to an HD 5870)

PSU: Corsair HX 1000W

HDD: Western Digital Black Caviar 750GB 7,200RPM.

CPU Cooler: Stock Fan

CD Drive: Sony Optiarc 22x

Everything worked before I put it in the case.

Everything was layed out on my desk.

Then, I put it in the case, turned it on and the debug LED flickered a few codes.

The "Beep" sound charmed indicating the system was starting.

It got up the the "Starting windows" screen (the one you see before you log in, *basically, the OS is loading*).

Then, the number "85" was paused on the debug LED for about 10 seconds and the system shut off, along with all fans/lights.

I tried reseting the CMOS, didn't work, I still got that same code.

One time, the system actually reached the log-in screen, but it only lasted for half a second and shut off.

Further Explanation Below:

The case came today. I installed everything, it fits perfect and looks amazing. Only problem is my mobo flashes the error code "85" (Final USB initialization) on its little two digit LED error code/temperature display device.

It looks like this:

The case comes with 2 USB, and 1 Firewire expansion slots, wich you plug into the motherboards USB connection pins.

The motherboard also came with an expansion slot containing 2 USB, 1 Firewire, just like the one in the case. (except the case's was built into the front)

I put both in but the Motherboard was short one firewire connector. So I removed the one that came with the motherboard.

Now I had 4 extra USB ports, and 1 Firewire (The other Firewire was removed because the mobo did not have enough pin connecters as i said before.)

I booted the system.. It reached the "Starting Windows" screen, stayed on that for about 10 seconds, then the system shut off.

After this happened, I removed the 2 USB expansion ports that came with the mobo, leaving only the expansion ports that came with case case left.

I booted the system.. did the same thing as before and shutoff at error "85" (Final USB Initialization).

Then, I removed all unnessisary wires (including all USB/lights/powerbuttons)

I manually started the system with the green switch on the mobo, nothing changed it still shut down with error "85"

I have stopped experimenting now and need help.

Does anyone have a clue of what could be wrong, or a way to fix it?

Netbook upgrade?

Hi I was wondering if I took this netbook: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220504 , removed the 1GB of ram in it and put in this ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145172 and then removed the 5200rpm HDD and added this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148336 if it would be a good idea. I plan to overclock the CPU to about 2ghz, and with the 7200rpm HDD and the 2GB ram I worry about 1) overheating, and 2) a lot less battery life.

Now on high performance I'm guessing about 4-5 hours life on this, with the 7200rpm HDD and overclock, what would I be looking at? And I plan to add windows 7 as well.

Graphics Card Recommendation?

I need a new graphics card and I am unable to make a decision; I'm just not comfortable with knowing exactly what I need, or what would be best.

My computer specs are: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00943196&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=&cc=us&lang=&product=3354761#N876

I currently only have a 300W power supply, but own a 400W one I could install. I would prefer not to buy a new power supply unless required. Unfortunately it seems most of what I've looked at requires at least 450W.

I play games like WOW and SL, and am just looking for a better experience with them. I've also considered a second monitor, dont know how/if this affects my graphics card.

I currently have integrated NVidia Graphics.. and tv tuner, etc. will a new graphics card affect that, or will it still work?

I would prefer to stick to around $200 or less total upgrade cost. Whats the best route to go?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

* For Overclocking help, go to:

http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/13/ShowForum.aspx

* Name your Title with your problem

- No titles like "Help Needed" or anything similar.

- Example: "RAM not working" (without the quotation marks)

* Give as much information as you can on your System.

- Operating System, motherboard, graphics card, ram, etc.

* Only reply if you know the answer.

- No replies with "I agree", "good luck with that", or "I don't know".

* Do not repeat answers that others have already answered.

- Be patient and professional if helping others.

Search Before Posting

There is a lot of information available here and all of it is less than 4 months old.

The Search window in the upper right hand corner is very useful. search posts not threads most of the time.

Google and Yahoo are huge. just typing your problem in the window will likely bring a result.

As JCarlos stated earlier label your problem thread correctly. This will bring help the fastest and will help others find the same answer easier. Panic labels do not help. for example:

Wont Run Help!!!!!!!!!

or

Help Just Died!!!!!!!!!

doesn't tell anybody that might be very knowledgeable with your problem that they have a great chance of helping you easily. A better label would look like:

"Vista Home Premium64 wont shut down"

And also as JCarlos stated before always list all of your components including model numbers. This way the person helping you knows exactly what they are dealing with.

Thanks and Good Luck
