Thoughts on recent Sci-fi entertainment

I just saw 2012, and even though I don't buy in to the whole "2012", I have to admit Roland Emmerich is the KING of catastrophe. With movies like Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, Emmerich has created a completely new genre for film making - global disasters. I was thrown off with the timing of the release though. Why didn't he make this a summer blockbuster?

I've also been watching the new TV show on ABC called V - which is really nothing more than a spin on Independence Day. Regardless, it is entertaining when done right and V is done right. I'm already hooked. However, I am not rallying with the underground Humans but rather with the Visitors. Because seriously, if the Humans in this fictional universe are that gullible and weak then they don't deserve to be the dominate species - but that doesn't make for good entertainment now does it!

V will be interesting to see where it goes, but doubt it will go far. Sci-fi doesn't usually make it very long on network TV. Especially because it is trying to build a completely new universe in the first season. These kinds of stories take years before they start to get really good and I don't think it will last that long.

mini candelabra bulbs

Can someone tell me what the difference between an (E11) mini-candelabra bulb and an (E12) candelabra bulb is?

They look very close...but common sense says you can't interchange them.

I have a lamp post that uses candelabra bulbs...I was looking for a halogen...but many are the "mini" variety.

I guess it should be "intuitively obvious"...but little things like this get me wondering.

Electrical for an outside Lamp Post

I am going to be running UF wiring to a lamp post through 3/4" gray sched 40 PVC.
I think I'm good...till I come into the house.
Should I convert over to conduit or use metal clad cable inside?
How would I make the connection/conversion between PVC and conduit?

Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of choices for the gray PVC fittings...which is not a big deal outside.

Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

Here are some unbiased points to start with:

MAC

+ Safe (Supposedly)

+ Easy (Very much so)

+ Fast (Supposedly)

+ Good programs come bundled

- Small amount of freeware avaiable

- Not upgradeable (Excluding the G4 and G5 desktops)

- More expensive than a cheap PC

+ Very customizable/ lots of choices (Many manufactures make them, you can build one yourself)

+ More freeware and game support

+ Cheap

- Low-end pcs are slower than low-end macs

- More vunerable to bad-things (easily fixable though)

I had to take my 84 year old dad to the hospital outpatient rehab. I had previously thought how I have enough trouble walking and I had to try to hang on to my father.

We had a short wait before my father's appointment. I saw a young man come down the hall and out the door. He looked to be in his mid-late 20's. He had on a desert camo T-shirt and shorts. I could plainly see his prosthetic leg (knee down). He was walking with a cane but was walking pretty good. It only took a few moments before it dawned on (even) me that this young man was a veteran. Then I smiled at him and gave him a nod and he gave me a nod back.

Back to my dad. He fought in WWII as part of the 5th Army through Northern Africa and up Italy. As long as I've been alive, he's had night terrors. Never wanted to talk about the war.

I'm ashamed to have ever felt sorry for myself.

We owe not just gratitude but our support to veterans of all wars.
