Writing Chinese or even Japanese is very difficult. Its great that you are learning another culture; And how to write and read and speak the language.

Somehow money = good -> westernized = money -> westerized = good -> westernized / rich looking = good, which leads to Malaysians putting nose clips on babies and way too many Asian people here in the States getting double-eyelid surgery and rhinoplastys to make themselves more "beautiful".. They're quick to throw away their old culture, language and looks.. Again, it's kinda sad really.. It doesn't have to be this way..

This is very true and very sad that they throw away there culture like they do when they get here. When I went to China over a year ago now, the people there are very polite and well mannered. The ones here get pushy and think that they are better then every one else. Where as there in China they treat every one the same. When at a restaurant there in Basing I said thank you to a waitress and she said your welcome, how often does any one here that here in America? And boy did I get lost when I was there as well, next time I am taking GPS with me. I also did a tour there in China on the Yangtze river pictures and video do not do it justice at all. Seeing the great wall of China and the terracotta solders all are very impressive. But when I was there the younger people would help there elders by caring groceries and walking across the street. We don’t see that here at all any more.

That is true, the YangZe River is the 2nd biggest river in china behind the Yellow River, i was in BeiJing whene i was 7, it was too cold to remember what i have seen, but so far has gone..so well for the economical side they now need to worry about highways as they are bumpy as hell.

That was along time ago for you I bet. I remember seeing the new large dam that they have built on the river and to see all the history washed away in 10 - 20 years will be a down fall. I remember on deck I looked up and saw a coffin on the hill side and took several pics when I was there. The culture of the people beat Americans hands down. That was the first time that I ever felt that I did fit in because they never leave any one out. Their food is great the people are polite and very friendly and you don’t get that here in America at all its called "move the F out of my way" attitude here, and that is really sad considering that we should be glad of what we have and not as spoiled. I had asked one person on the river how much do they make per day and she stated $1 a day we should be grateful for what we have.

Its very unfortunate that the parents today like you said want to be friends to their kids and not parents. Some of the people I know today do not lack family values, they will drop what they are doing and go deal with the family first and that is how it should be. Family should come first in a persons life.

Re: Because I'm A Girl

Writing Chinese or even Japanese is very difficult.

Family values are not of importance as they once were. Parents seem to be more interested in being friends to their kids than actually parenting. No values at all.

Re: Because I'm A Girl

LMAO!! You all are awesome

I'd have to say it has more to do with my interest in foreign
culture and language more than anything.. It's really really hard to
explain and I haven't really even tried before..

Hmmm.. Instead of writing fluidly, I'll just post a few thoughts...

You could be "normal" and date the girl next door, or are you going
to travel the world looking for a soul mate? There's no reason why you
couldn't, and it's not impossible.. Not everybody in the world has that
luxury, in fact, of the entire population in the world, very very few
people do.. And those who do, and don't take the opportunity... It's
kinda sad really... That maybe they'll never find their perfect match..
Ironically, your perfect match might be the girl next door while you're
busy flying off around the world.. haha..

-> (became)

Somehow money = good -> westernized = money -> westerized =
good -> westernized / rich looking = good, which leads to Malaysians
putting nose clips on babies and way too many Asian people here in the
States getting double-eyelid surgery and rhinoplastys to make
themselves more "beautiful".. They're quick to throw away their old
culture, language and looks.. Again, it's kinda sad really.. It
doesn't have to be this way..

Fact: I read&write Chinese better than a large number of ABCs
that I have met (American Born Chinese)... It's kinda freaky really,
that you expect a Chinese person to know Chinese and then they just
give you that blank stare for a moment, if you ask them about the
proper way to draw / paint a certain Chinese character.. Which quickly
turns to their own embarrassment as they admit they don't know how to
properly read&write Chinese even though they learned how to speak a
dialect of it from their parents (Mandarin, Cantonese, whatever...)..

So when I need help with the proper order in which to draw the lines of
a Chinese character, I throw open MSN, start up a chat with somebody in
China and then pull out the "Whiteboard" tool in MSN (Unbelievably
awesome for those learning to write Chinese).. And they show how to
draw it.. (with a mouse, but still, it's drawn!).. I actually like
writing Chinese charcters (*GASP* ).. So I'm strange like that..
It's just something that you can *really* get into, writing Chinese
characters over and over in a little workbook during commercial breaks
while watching Chinese, Japanese, or Korean TV is... dare I say it...
fun.. Especially when it isn't for a grade, and you can write whatever characters you want as many times as you want..

There's a side benefit to knowing how to read&write Chinese.. The first is that it helps you read&write Japanese AND also Korean (though just a tiny bit)...

The second benefit is I get to drive my parents insane on a regular basis...

Me: You drew a mountain on the wall..
Dad: No, I marked a stud in the wall..
Me: And you did it by drawing a mountain on the wall..
Dad: Where do you see a mountain?
Me: Right there! You gotta be blind if you can't see it!

Dad: It doesn't look at all like a mountain, I marked the edges of a stud...
Me: Nope, you drew a mountain in Chinese (Also Japanese)..

Re: Because I'm A Girl

jcarlos:

Yay for the Internets... It's fun to chat with people in different countries.

Dude . . . why other countries? No possibilities in that. You would be surprised how many show up on local searches. ha ha

It called Americanized he does not want that, when a foreign female is here she gets Americanized. BTW Sid do what U want.
