I'm trying to run the installers for these programs in Virtualized W98, but I get a setup.exe is not a valid win32 application error. A second drive was added that contained the retail version of Windows 7. Used the computer with dual boot to transfer information from one to another. Now when the computer is turned on the error is displayed "DISK FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISC" or something similar.

Tried putting in the Windows 7 disc and repairing start up sequence, and some other commands in the recovery command prompt, ended up getting errors like "MISSING ELEMENT".

Note: When going into the recovery tools there is no operating system displayed, although when in the recovery command prompt using the bootrec/rebuildbcd (forgot the exact phase) the operating system was displayed, and when prompted for adding a boot sequence or whatever it was, the error "ELEMENT NOT FOUND" was given.

Came across this THREAD but it seemed ridiculous to be required to burn a system recovery disc when there's the full Windows 7 disc there. I called Gateway and was told my OS Vista is corrupt and they'll be sending me recovery discs in a week or so! What???? Any advice or wisdom on this would be great! After i bought this laptop it sold out, and i want to keep it. Is this a serious issue? BTW, i was worried about installing Win7, but now i have to install Vista again! As I'm going through it, everything is going fine until I get to where it asks for the "Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD". I can remember having trouble with this on other installs, because I have no CD clearly labeled that. I have the OEM version, and the CDs I have are discs "1" and "2", and a disc labeled "Windows XP Media Center Edition, Updates for Version 2005". The installation doesn't accept any of these discs for this part of the process. I burned a CD with this ISO, and that doesn't seem to get recognized either. I remember having slight problems on other installations with this, but I never remember getting stuck, I just wish I could remember what I did. The first file it asks for is "asms" if that helps at all. Thanks in advance!
Windows Vista Failed to Load + more inside!!!

I don't know why when I give my family a computer they always seem to bring out the worst in it. I had no problems with it when I owned it and have been maintaining it for them since I gave it to them, but it seems the tech gods look down upon my generosity.

Anyway, it has been working great after I installed the new power supply about a week ago. Then my brother started it up today and it said Windows failed to load due to either a missing system file or corrupted data and gave me a status code of 0x00000e9. I figured I would try to repair it with the installation cd, but whenever it tries to load the cd-rom it just goes to the same Windows failed to load screen. I really want to install Windows but I keep getting error code memory dump 0x0000008E. I get this error code from a fresh install, right after the hard drive has been formated and when the Windows CD starts loading the pointer and it says it is going to take 37 minutes to finish install there is where I get the blue screen. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am trying to install Windows XP Home Edition, tried installing Windows 7 but it would just freeze at the Windows Logo start up and I have already changed the BIOS to read Native instead of Legacy and I still get the same error. I cannot find the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. I want my jpegs to default open on double click to this viewer. Currently the only way I can do that is to right click and choose Preview. I have tried "Open With" but this viewer is not listed. I have also tried changing it in folder options under the view tab. It still isn't listed. I have tried Start -> Run -> regsvr32 shimgvw.dll, without sucess also. If I can find the folder where it is located then I can choose it as the default image viewer.

Any other ideas? Help.
