I have crashed my system again. Error messages, blue screens. Machine is three years old. In the past when i added a new harddrive or updated the cpu I would have to (for whatever reason) reinstall XP using the original disc. Original disc on the same computer.

Now I am building a new computer. And the comments at newegg are....that if I purchase the OEM version of XP 32 I can only use the key once. So if I crash this new computer......I can't use the disk again?

Maybe my original XP was the retail version, would that make a difference?

Guys I'm desperately looking for a copy of 64 bit Windows XP. All I can find is 32 bit. Can anyone suggest where I can buy it?

Ok for the most part i know the differece between it and the full version or w/e you want to call it but i have complex questions that Microsoft can't seem to answer because there tech support is complete and utterly worthless.

Question 1) since it is bound to one computer and one computer only can it be reinstalled if it needs to be for what ever reason

Question 2) Say something happens to my motherbaord and it needs to be replaced ussually when you replace a motherbaord your computer acts like it is in a new pc altogether and alot of times windows needs to be installed, would this be considered "moving it to another computer" since technically you just changed a faulty part

I bought a new HD just so I could upgrade to WIndows 7. The old HD still has XP and all my old programs/system files and is connected as well, just in another SATA port now. I can access some programs in 7 by just hunting for them on the old HD (WoW) but others wont work (Steam). Is there anyway to get everything to interface with 7 or am I stuck reinstalling every program I want to use on the Windows 7 HD? Thanks for any help.

Hello, I am using Windows 7 and I have the problem with explorer.exe stops working and it restarts and it keeps doing that every time I try to cut and paste and sometimes even when I open a new folder.

I did the steps that they provided in this link: http://www.blogsdna.com/2137/fix-windows-installer-explorer-update-has-stopped-working-in-windows-7.htm yet the problem still exists!!!

Does anyone know another way to fix this?

Okay i have been hearing mixed reviews on this to where half the people said that you can't use a Window 7 Ultimate UPGRADE disk and do a clean install with the RC and the other half says that you can because RC is a windows operating system. Has anyone bought any of the Windows 7 Upgrade disk and clean installed over Windows 7 RC?

im trying to figure out if i shud do the $30 Student deal. but thats an upgrade so i want to see if im going to have to buy the full version of Ultimate at $320

Hi,

As of right now i am currently running Windows XP professional SP3, and i would like to install Linux on my computer as a secondary OS.

I for one do not know how to install a second OS on my computer without completely removing the old one, and i do not know how to duel boot OS's if it is possible with Windows/Linux.

If anyone can help me out on this it would be greatly appreciated.

The Linux OS is Ubuntu.

Hello - I just finished installing my family 3pack on all computers after the fun filled beta/RC testing and was going to use an old computer to build a WHS. I have been reading up on it and discovered in all the fine print that I will have to have my computers running Windows 7 Pro to get the fun of remote desktop.

My questions are:

Q:If I upgrade my main computer to Windows 7 Pro will I be able to access the rest of the Win7 Homes remotely - IE being at home and want to go onto the desktop? It really doesn't matter if the kids/wife can remote to me. I want to be able to log in and fix all the other computers.

Q:Does WHS work find with Window 7 Home? Q:Will I have to upgrade my Laptop to Win7 Pro to access remotely my computers when I am traveling? This would affect which computer I might install Windows 7 Pro on.

Q:What would I have to do to be able to remote into my mother's desktop over the internet from across the city to fix a problem without having to drive there. Would she have to have XP pro installed? or is home XP fine?

I am about to install the WHS trial version and see what happens etc. Any tip or pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It seems like if you are a student or have an e-mail address that ends with .edu, you can order either a Home Premium or Professional Upgrade license for 29.99 plus tax until January 3, 2010.

They will first show a picture of Home Premium packaging, but you will have the option to choose Professional on the next screen.

1.What happens.

After you buy a license, you download a downloader first. The downloader didn't work unless I told my computer to RUN instead of SAVE the downloader when I downloaded the downloader.
Then you download one .exe file and 2 .box files using the downloader.
Click on the .exe file and the contests of the 2 .box files are unpacked into a new folder in the same directory.
Click on an setup.exe file inside the new folder to initiate installation.

2. Making an ISO file from so that you can make your own installation disk

In case someone downloads this, there's a way to make an ISO file out of your download. I tried and could get a bootable installation disk on my own.

3. One license per person under this program even if you have two computers.

4. If you order "their" installation disk for 13 dollars when you purchase a license through this program, you will get a 32-bit and 64-bit disks just like when you buy an upgrade package from a retail store, whereas you only get whichever you purchased if you make your own ISO and installation disk.

I pre ordered the upgrade version from microsoft's store online and they shipped it on release date. I havent yet received it but i found out the upgrade only lets me use the product key on one PC. Which i found a waste of money since my parents want it on their PCs too and we dont have enough to buy more than one copy. Will the OEM editon let me install it on all 3 computers?

I have OEM Office Professional installed on 2 different machines. One unit I will be doing the upgrade to Win 7. The second will be wiped and have a fresh windows 7 install. My first question: on the upgrade install of Win 7 will i have to reinstall office? Or the programs should remain? Secondly, is there potential for me to run into any problems with the PC receiving the fresh install and the re-installation of office? I know the OEM licenses are pretty sticky and I dont want to loose 'em.

Windows Vista Return

I'm not really sure if this is the right forum for asking this, but I need some help. I just built a computer on which I also ordered the Vista Home Premium 64 bit with Windows 7 coupon -OEM.

After ordering this, I got the RC version of Windows 7 which I have since installed on my computer (love Windows 7 btw). I have already loaded a lot of other programs onto the computer and spent some time finding the 64 bit drivers.

I am trying to find the easiest way to go about getting Windows 7 onto the PC.

Is it possible to return the unopened OEM Vista software for a copy of Windows 7 through newegg? The OEM versions of both are the same price, but I'm not sure if I am able to go this route. I read the return policy and it seems to be ok but I need clarification.

Even if I do that, am I still going to lose everything by installing the new Windows 7 OS? I still think it would be easier if I could just go from Windows 7 to Windows 7 and not W7 to Vista back to W7, but if its going to erase my programs anyway, then I'll do whatever.

Can anyone give me any direction on what to do? The OEM Vista software that I have is unopened as of right now.

Hello, I guess bad things just have to happen to me, first my hard drive on my desktop dies =(, and now this.

Anyway, when I turn on my laptop, the wallpaper doesn't load, it's just greyish colour and my Documents folder pops up. There is no start button, clock or anything. I have to go to Task Manager and end the explorer.exe there and then restart another explorer.exe for everything to come back. Also now when I shut down I get this message:

explorer.exe - Application Error

The instruction at 0x6ea81b2b referenced memory. The memory could not be read at 0x6ea81b2b . Click on OK to terminate the program.

What in the world does that mean?!

Ok, so this might sound like a stupid question, but what is a Microsoft Exchange Server? Our office is interested in the outlook function which allows us to share our calendars. Its my understanding this is only possible with a MES? Is it an operating system? Can it be installed on our file server or is it a feature of our ISP?

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

Hey, just a quick question but if I want Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and I currently have Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, could I just buy the Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade? Or is that only for Windows 7 upgrades? I'm assuming I can't but the full is $100 so I'm just makin' sure.
